Hi!
I want to operate my RCD 300 externally, meaning not inside the car.
So far, so good. The radio turns on and works fine, but after about an hour, it shuts off. When I turn it back on, it works properly again for another hour.
I've also tried attaching a GW 7N0 907 530C, but I'm experiencing the same problem.
I have attached the document you requested.
Does anyone have a tip for me?

Speculation: Does the radio want to see the ignition turned ON?
Best regards, Rainer.

Yes, exactly, Rainer, that's the problem.
Do you have any ideas on how to get this onto the CAN bus?
GW has a KL.15 connection, which I have now simulated using a switch, but the problem persists.

... that I will listen carefully, because I also have a collection of old devices in my basement.
I could actually create a fun VCDS test called "Car," similar to what Uwe did at trade shows.
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

The RCD300 receivers are excellent for FM reception and can display the PI (Program ID) long before RDS decoding in diagnostic mode. I know some people who pursue the hobby of extended-range FM reception using these devices, but they all shut down after about an hour. However, you can usually turn them back on immediately, so it's not a problem for most users. To connect "normal" antennas, an adapter needs to be created.

I've now installed a diagnostic tool to see what the exact problem is; it appears to be an "S-CONTACT" issue, as shown in the log.
Is it possible to determine whether the radio and the gateway use the same CAN protocol?
There are versions 1.6 and 2.0.

The radio is missing the CAN message indicating that the ignition is turned on. It originally came from the BNSTG module, if I remember correctly.
The simplest solution would be a microcontroller that puts the corresponding message onto the bus.

Sure, can you tell me where I can get such a microcontroller? There are adapters available that cost €70-€100, but that's too expensive for me.
A microcontroller doesn't cost the world, you know .

Then you still have to program it appropriately.
If you really want to pursue this project, I would recommend a microcontroller evaluation kit with CAN functionality.
Just invest a few more hours and it will work out.
Best regards, Rainer.

Another important question:
Do the control units handle operation with such a combined heat and power system?
http://www.baywa-baumarkt.de/out/pictures/generated/product/1/665_665_75/173059_absaar_batterieladegeraet_8a_612volt_01.png
Here, terms like "voltage peaks" and "residual ripple" come to mind.
And for the deliberate destruction of things, those STGs are just too valuable to waste.

Hello Martin,

Correct. It's likely that there is no smoothing filter at all (which makes sense), and the half-wave signals from the rectifier are being used directly.
The devices will probably survive, but malfunctions are quite likely.
Besides the ones I use, there are also regulated power supplies with a voltage of 13.8V and a good output capacity. For example, I have a Peaktech 4613Z next to me (which wasn't expensive): 13.8V / 6A.
Best regards, Rainer.

OK.
My very old Kenwood KAC 923 amplifier is smoothing everything out internally.
Absolutely no background noise.
It only draws more power when you turn it up than the "power supply" can provide.

Most modern and up-to-date car radios operate on the standard 4A power supply, while some models that require more power may need one of the less common 6A types.
So, the power consumption of the car radios wasn't the problem. What's more annoying is that some of them turned out to be disgusting sources of interference. I know that the TFT power supplies start to make noise when they draw less than half of their maximum current output, and then also interfere with FM reception.
