Hello everyone, after a major engine overhaul of my T3 bus, TDI AFN 110 hp, I am now having problems with the engine control unit. I replaced the immobilizer with a new one, as I didn't have a (4-digit) code for the old one. After installation, the engine started, but when I turned it off again (about 5 minutes), it wouldn't start anymore. When I try to start it, I get the message: Engine control unit locked 17978. The immobilizer no longer shows any errors, and the learning values have also been deleted. Do you perhaps have any suggestions on how I can proceed?
Login to the Engine Control Unit ?? because you can't delete the learning values there.

Hi

AFN is not the same as AFN.

Which donor provided the AFN? Golf 3, Passat 3A, Passat 3B ...

If it's a Passat, what type of engine does it have? One, that starts with 028 .. or with 038.

Your errors indicate a 038 with a "newer" WFS, because the WFS from the Golf 3 and Passat 3A are very outdated and can even be adapted to a pear icon_smile.gif

... there was another T.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

Hello Martin

Thank you for your quick response. The donor car was allegedly a Seat Ibiza from 1997. I had already won the engine with all the attached parts on eBay. The problem started with this, as the WFS that came with it apparently wasn't from the same car. I received the error "Key not authorized". This WFS was a black-brown box with two connectors (3-pole for the reading pulse, 6-pole for K-Line, etc.). Since I didn't have a pin for this key, I got a new WFS from a friend that was actually for an Audi A4 (B4). My friend assured me that this part would also fit, even though it had a connector (12-pole). In addition, he said that it would automatically learn. That's also true, because after installation, I was able to start the engine, but only once.
The number of my engine control unit starts with 028. The WSF no longer displays any errors.

Since I didn't have the original key fob, I got one from a friend that was intended for an Audi A4 (B4). My friend assured me that this part would also work, even though it had a connector (12-pin), and he also said that it would automatically learn.

The 12-pole is also used in the A8 and A6-C4. The control unit also has a login feature, and the keys must be programmed. icon_wink.gif

Is it something like this?

http://i6.ebayimg.com/02/i/06/35/3c/4a_1_b.JPG

That was also correct, because after installation, I was able to start the engine, but only once.

And what happened then?

Augsburg is a bit far away, that's a shame.

This is the new WFS control unit. The keys have been programmed, as I have the key for this WFS control unit. I can't start the engine because I have the error "Engine Control Unit Locked" in the engine control unit, and I can't delete it because it's not a sporadic error. Right now, I'm stuck, is there anything I can do, or should I go to the SEAT dealer? The WFS is functioning correctly.

Is the engine control unit (ECU) connected to the immobilizer?

This is the problem. I am unable to clear the learning values in the engine control unit. My tester indicates "Unknown Function" or "Not Possible at this time." What PIN do I need to log in to the engine control unit?

Besides the fact that we don't know which tester you are using, you should not do that in the engine control unit, but in the WFS control unit. icon_cool.gif

I have the VAG 1552. In the WFS, I have already deleted the learning values. This worked perfectly. Is this enough for learning the engine control unit?

Perform login and in the WFS control unit, adjust channel 000.

So, if I delete the learning values in the WFS control unit, and then I don't turn off the ignition and start the engine immediately, the engine starts and runs. The LED on the WFS continues to flash. I can delete the fault memory in the engine control unit while the engine is running. It doesn't detect any errors when the engine is running. However, if I stop the engine and restart it, my engine control unit is locked again. If I delete the learning values of the WFS again, I can start the engine again. What is this problem m?

This is the emergency start function, which is now activating...

Then start posting details...

Donor car, meaning a Polo.

Donor car is an Audi.

I would advise you to get a suitable VW WFS control unit and try again.
