Hello. Something different from the usual TDI talk. I'm having a serious power problem with my John Deere, a three-cylinder model from 1978, with 38 kW. It has a ROTO DIESEL CAV injection pump, supposedly with a universal speed governor. It's supposed to have around 50 horsepower, but it feels like it only has 20. When I try to go up a small hill, it feels like I'm losing power, even though I have my foot on the accelerator. I then have to downshift to get to the top.
The fuel filter (LuFi) and diesel filter (DiFi) are new. The lines from the fuel tank, via the pre-lift pump and DiFi, to the injection pump are clean. The pre-lift pump itself has been cleaned and is functioning correctly. The engine starts very well, runs smoothly, and cleanly. Therefore, the problem is likely related to the fuel supply. The engine reacts very sluggishly to sudden acceleration. It also doesn't produce any smoke, even under load.
"If only I knew how to adjust or remove the pump. There are no adjustment screws on it (other than the ones for idle and full load settings)."
Has anyone ever worked with these pumps or is familiar with them? I would appreciate any help.
