Hello everyone,
The following problem occasionally occurs in my 1Z Passat 35i, and it only happens in cold weather:
1) At partial load, the vehicle attempts to briefly accelerate without any accelerator pedal input, then returns to its previous speed. The frequency is approximately 1 Hz.
2) Under full load (e.g., on a highway incline), there is a significant lack of power when using full throttle. If you briefly release the throttle and then press it again, acceleration resumes until a blockage occurs again, and the speed no longer increases. Repeating this process a few times allows you to increase the speed to a level appropriate for the 90 horsepower.
VAG-Com is not available. The workshop suspects the mass airflow sensor (MAF) is the cause.
Do you think this is realistic, or do we need to consider a different approach?
Regards,
Martha.

It's possible, but the workshop should know for sure and not just guess! They should do a diagnostic test, or have it done. In my opinion (although I don't know much about the 1Z engine), it could also be an NHG issue...
Perhaps it's cheaper to buy your own VAG-COM diagnostic tool. Not every workshop necessarily has the expertise. Aktuell:

Just try driving without the LMM, i.e., unplug it.
While the final speed might not be fully reached because the tractor will have less power, if it's the mass airflow sensor (MAF), the blockages should be gone (meaning there's nothing to "overcome"), and the surging should also stop.
Price: 0 EUR.
Result: Determining whether the 85 EUR for the mass airflow sensor is worth it.

Hello!
Besides the LMM (mass airflow sensor), the boost pressure control valve (solenoid valve) could also be the cause.
Best regards!

Not quite:
On the Passat, the N75 valve, also known as the turbocharger pressure control valve, is not located on the fender between the shock absorber and the mass airflow sensor (MAF). Instead, it's mounted on the firewall, near the brake booster.
A small manifold with three hose connections (blue, red, and black).

Have you checked if there are any air bubbles in the fuel lines?
When was the diesel filter last replaced?
