Workshop action: Incorrect coding on VW Golf/Passat (Solution)

Golf IV / Passat B5 with extended service interval (ESI), part number QG1.
Activating extended maintenance interval.


Affected vehicle identification numbers (VINs):
From WVW ZZZ 1JZ YP 161 129 to WVW ZZZ 1JZ YP 161 459.
WVW ZZZ 3BZ YP 093 434 to WVW ZZZ 3BZ YP 096 726.


Cause:
Vehicles with extended maintenance intervals (EMI) within the affected vehicle identification number (VIN) ranges may have a situation where the extended maintenance interval function was not activated due to a programming error. This means that the corresponding maintenance intervals are not flexible but are determined and displayed statically.


Procedure:
The encoding for the instrument cluster should be:

XXX1X (a five-digit coding number where "1" indicates a flexible interval). If a "0" is entered in this field, the control unit must be re-coded. In this case, only the "0" (the fourth digit in the code) should be changed to a "1".
Example: The code number "34502" should be changed to "34512".

Adjusting adaptation channels (no login required).
Channel 43: Target value 00030.
Channel 44: Target value 00730.
Channel 45: Setpoint 00002.
