Hello.
I had previously reported on the xenon problems my friend was experiencing with his Passat 3BG.
Nach neuerlchen Auslesen des FSP kommt jetzt die Meldung das der Geben links Vorne einen schluss gegen Masse hat. Now, my question is:
Where exactly is the sensor located?
Can I test it, for example, with a multimeter?
Nach welchen prinzip areitet dieser Sonsor? Resistive?
How can I be sure that the sensor is actually defective and not due to a broken cable or something similar?
In the workshop, they also mentioned that it's possible the control unit might be faulty; is that a possibility?
Thank you for your responses.
Best regards,

Hello,
A lever is mounted on the left lower control arm (the lower front steering arm) and this lever activates the sensor. You can see this if you are standing underneath the car.
If a sports suspension is installed, the sensor may be outside of its operating range, which can cause an error message to be generated.
As far as I remember, there are three pins on the sensor.
[ASSUMPTION] It should be possible to measure variable resistance values between the two, depending on the sensor position. [/ASSUMPTION] The sensor at the rear axle would serve as a reference object.
Bye.
peace

Thank you for the quick response.
No, it doesn't have a sports suspension installed. The xenon headlights are no longer functioning properly, which is why we read the fault code: the entry indicated "short circuit."
In the measurement group of VAG-COM, a value of 0V is also displayed. The rear sensor is providing approximately 1.8V.
I just want to make sure that the sensor is actually defective and not something with the control unit. That's why I wanted to know if it can be checked with a multimeter.
Best regards,

Do you have the ECU part number and also the current sensor values ready?
The sensors are always displaying voltage values, but with a reasonably up-to-date version of VAG-COM, you should also see target values and hints/information.

Hello Sebastian,
Unfortunately, I don't have the Sg number readily available. The sensor reading remains at 0.02V regardless of how much weight is in the car.
The sensor on the rear axle was reading approximately 1.8V and its value also changed depending on the load.
I would like to understand the sensor better before buying a new one based on suspicion.
Best regards,

Then, as mentioned above by PAX, take a look under the car and check if the sensor still has a mechanical connection to the axle. If something has come loose, you might be experiencing exactly the problem you described.
There's not much more that can be done regarding the diagnosis unless you've already checked for any mechanical issues. The next step would then be to check the connectors.
Best regards,
Sure.
Here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"Guste" means "gust" in English. It can also be used as a verb, meaning "to gust."

Okay, I'll take a look at the car and possibly remove the wheel. I found a picture online, but it's from an A4, so it might look similar on my Passat.
Does anyone have a schematic? The sensor is just a resistor that changes value. I'm interested in knowing which pins I need to measure between.
Best regards,
