hi,
The 1Z model only has the short, unsupported flex pipe in front of the catalytic converter.
Which of the AHU/AFN/ALE drivers has the time and inclination to measure the length of the long flexible pipe (the one that sits in front of the catalytic converter)?
After my third flexible pipe has failed and is now annoying me, I want to switch to the longer version with a support bracket, *without* having to replace the catalytic converter again. Because if I were to convert to original VW parts (simply using the AHU parts), the catalytic converter would need to be replaced at the same time.
Please also measure the material thickness of the two round steel fingers of the support.
Thank you very much.

Attached are the two-piece, short ones from size 1, and the long, one-piece with suspenders.

What exactly goes wrong with your flexible pipe?
Is the steel mesh tearing?
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'MFG' is an abbreviation for 'mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which means 'best regards' or 'sincerely.' It is commonly used in German-language emails and letters.

@afn
Yep.
@wurst
Externally, there's nothing to see. It starts to hum, and when you reset it, the humming stops.
Before that, you can remove the condensation by pressing the accelerator pedal (idle, with the car on a lift).
That's simply a design flaw.

My VR6 also has this bracket (but not yet, it will be added later). However, I haven't experienced any problems. I suspect it's mainly due to the engine mounting and your torque. I don't think it's just the weight and vibrations from the exhaust that are causing it.
If I were in your place, I would try to improvise something using some cheap, generic exhaust rubber. The thickness of the round steel bar isn't that important (it just needs to stick out a bit; I'm currently using the wrong size and it's working fine). If you install them from the back, you can use the same thickness of round steel bar.
Perhaps you could look into getting stiffer engine mounts, but unfortunately, that will likely negatively impact comfort. If you're not willing to accept that, then the current suspension will have to suffice. It probably won't completely eliminate the problem, or is this issue only present in the 1Z models?

That's a typical 1Z problem!
because it's the only TDI without a bypass valve and without the support bracket.
That's why we kneaded the flexible pipe so much every time we stopped, which means it won't last very long.

If that's the case, doesn't the bracket introduce more disadvantages? If the engine puts so much stress on the flexible pipe when it's turned off, wouldn't that only increase if you hold the other side of the flexible pipe? Wouldn't different engine mounts be more appropriate in that case?
There are standard flexible shafts available in various diameters. Perhaps one of them will be a bit more durable.

possesses. The way it wobbles when parked also suggests this.
Best regards.

ok, then again:
The 1Z has a short flexible pipe and a completely attached exhaust system that extends all the way to BEHIND the rear bench.
The others have a longer flexible pipe (which makes it more flexible!) and a self-supporting exhaust system.
Hold a pipe, about 1.5 to 2 meters long, in your hand and wiggle it around. If you stop wiggling, the pipe will make you wiggle! (1Z)
Put it somewhere and leave it alone. If you leave it in peace, it will leave you in peace.
Der 1Z muss das kurze haben, damit es die Gewichtskraefte aufnehmen kann. das kurze ist aber wiederum zu unflexibel, um die Randale beim Abstellen zu ertragen. So it crumbles.

Martin, your jokes are the best. Even though you often don't mean them (like that time with your girlfriend), I'm currently laughing out loud in front of my computer.
Best regards,
Sure, here's the translation:
"Guste" is a German word that means "gust" or "gust of wind." It can also be used to describe a sudden burst of something, such as laughter or anger.
