Hello everyone.

'Can anyone provide me with a detailed description of an air conditioning system maintenance procedure? I haven't had it serviced in about 2 years, and I'd like to get it checked and refilled before it completely breaks down.' What kind of fluid do I need, and do I require any other special parts or tools?

Thank you!

Hi,

Yes, just drive as long as the air conditioning is working (cooling).
If the refrigerant eventually leaks out due to a leak or normal diffusion, it is recommended to add a leak detection solution to the new refrigerant and to replace the dryer.

Nothing can go wrong because a pressure switch will simply shut down the system if the filling is insufficient.

As Bertil already mentioned, this kind of service isn't worth it for home use. -> Use a Bosch service or regular HVAC services (for buildings).

Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you for the answers...
I suppose I can continue driving with a clear conscience.

Hello Thomas,

Okay, I had forgotten about that point. Occasionally, replace the pollen filter, and for cleaning, use warm water, then spray with Febreeze – that's all.
At the very least, when it starts to smell like dead cats coming from the ventilation slots, you usually replace the pollen filter yourself icon_wink.gif.
My last but one cleaning was after approximately 2 years of operation, and it wasn't strictly necessary (there was hardly any leakage and no odor).

Where did the post go? Thomas had correctly pointed out the need for cleaning.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi,
The maintenance also includes cleaning the evaporator. The hot air from the engine condenses on the evaporator, forming condensation. Dirt and pollen stick to the moist surface, and the decomposition process can be clearly smelled. The lamellae are cleaned and disinfected during maintenance.
In addition, the refrigerant (often R314a) may need to be refilled. R314a is very volatile and diffuses through the hose material. The pressure is decreasing, which leads to a reduced cooling performance of the air conditioner.

I recently had both of these procedures done on my father's Astra. At first, I was skeptical about whether they would actually make a difference. Now I am convinced.

Thomas.
