I had another wildlife accident, and now that the repairs are done, several things seem strange to me, and I don't think the car is running as well as it did before. The damage amounted to approximately €6,500. Everything leaked out except for the engine oil and brake fluid. I hit a deer on the front left side, so there's a new headlight, linkage, water tank, power steering reservoir, the air conditioning leaked out, the hood, bumper, and much more (A4 B5 2.5 TDI 150PS).

Okay, let's move on to the questions: (everything is idle).

- Is it normal for the VTG turbocharger adjustment to slowly increase until it reaches its maximum setting after starting?

- Is it normal to hear a hissing sound from the pipes in the water tank for about 30 seconds after turning off the engine (there are two controllers connected to it)?

- Is it normal that when the mass airflow sensor (MAF) connector is disconnected, there's no visual error message (like a blinking indicator light) but only an entry in the control unit (ECU)?

- How does my engine behave when I cover the opening of the hose leading to the turbocharger with a verschandeln cloth and plastic wrap while the air intake is open and the engine is idling? (No, this isn't a joke, because in my case, the engine runs slightly rougher, but nothing else! Where is it getting its air from?)

Thank you to everyone who is taking my concerns seriously!

Are you sure your turbocharger boost pipes and the wastegate are in good condition? Given the impact you described, the Ibiza at least would have had a small chance of survival. I'm not sure where the wastegate is located on your Audi though.

If there's a leak, the air intake is definitely obvious.

Does it make a hissing sound when turbocharger pressure builds up, and does the engine bog down or lose power during harder acceleration?

Best regards,

January.

Yes, the LLK (likely referring to a liquid level sensor or similar component) was faulty and has been replaced! However, I can't detect anything specific at this time.
Here is the link to a photo: http://www.markus-merk.de/audi/wildschaden/IMG_9849.JPG

Well, quite a lot was broken, even though it might not look like it!

Hmm.. how good is the workshop? Because if it really severely damaged the cooling liquid, some of it might have gotten into the charging system...

Have you checked all the cables to make sure they are properly connected?

Best regards,

January.

Unfortunately, not yet. The engine compartment is so cluttered that the bumper and other things need to be removed! It's a miracle they even managed to get the engine into the engine bay icon_smile.gif! I have VAG-COM and tested it, and the turbo boost pressure is fine... The intercooler was only slightly dented, so I think it's unlikely that anything got through to the engine! Do you have any more tips for my other questions? Anyway, thanks again for the super quick response!

M.

Hi Merlin,

Okay, I would immediately suspect the crankcase ventilation system.
They usually end up in this hose before the loader.
Therefore, he might be catching his breath.
But actually, it should be spinning faster.
... mine gets more excited about it.

Someone once compared it to a vacuum cleaner; when you hold it close, it's known to spin faster.

Regarding the Large Language Model (LLM).
I once forgot to plug in the air filter when replacing it. I only noticed because of the noticeably reduced engine performance. There were no warning lights or anything like that.

That's all there is to it.
I hope I was able to provide some helpful information.

Greetings,
Thomas.

I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. Could you please rephrase it?
"Engine or turbocharger? An engine is nonsense; if it was referring to a turbocharger, Merlin won't be helpful either."
As long as the engine doesn't stall when the intake manifold is held open, it's drawing in air through a leak, quite simply. He who seeks shall find icon_wink.gif.
Even if the EGR system is active and it's drawing air from the exhaust, eventually all the oxygen in the combustion cycle will be used up, and the engine will stall.

Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, that's all about vacuum leaks! I'll start looking for those. Do you have any other tips regarding my questions about the mass airflow sensor (MAF), climate control, etc.?

Hey everyone,

@Rainer
It doesn't matter whether the engine revs up or shuts off later.
Both of those would be signs that the intake manifold is leaking.
If the loader isn't reaching its maximum speed, there's likely air getting into the system somewhere. Well, in that case, whoever looks will find it.
Therefore, I was thinking about the crankcase ventilation system (or the EGR valve if it's open). They are also sources of air.

@merlin

I didn't experience any optical error messages related to the mass airflow sensor connector.

Greetings,
Thomas.

erstmal Danke für euer Feedback! Still searching.

Can anyone provide more information about the VTG (Variable Torque Generator) and climate control lines/regulators in the water tank? (see my first post above).

Thank you all.

Hello Merlin,

It is normal for the VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) to be at its maximum setting during engine start and idle. Unfortunately, I cannot provide further assistance regarding the other points you mentioned.
Nevertheless, you should definitely have your turbocharger system checked for leaks.

Best regards, Rainer.
