So, a lot has already been written about power boxes/tuning boxes, but I couldn't find a suitable answer to my question in the search results.

So:

'For example, there are Speed-Buster tuning boxes that can be used for all 1.9-liter pump-injector engines. Why are there then still special boxes for each engine type? Is this just a way to make money? Or how big are the differences if I have a box for the 105 hp, the 115 hp, or the 130 hp PD TDI engine?'
Are there worlds between them?

I hope someone has a more in-depth understanding of the specifications of these speakers and can provide me with an answer.
Regards,
Carsten.

I'm going to venture to say that tuning boxes don't actually have a mapping, but mostly consist of simple resistors.

With PD tuning boxes, it's important to distinguish between those that manipulate the diesel temperature sensor and the more conventional types.
That will probably explain the price difference, because these diesel temperature sensors are really the cheapest, low-quality parts.

Hello,
There are now also modules that extend the injection duration of the PDE (positive electrode displacement).

These are then inserted into the control lines leading to the pressure-dependent elements (PDEs). They contained a small process computer that calculated the extension of the injection duration based on the original values.
The goal is to achieve a kind of load-dependent multiple injection, similar to how the injection quantity is adjusted based on boost pressure in the Autalbox system, which has been described extensively here.
The IMA units have the same mechanical construction. However, depending on the engine, there might be different 'maps' or calibrations. You will likely have to pay more for this software modification.

However, I wouldn't use such an 'intelligent' box either, because it's essentially just as expensive as a real chip and only adjusts one parameter.

Best regards, Jochen.

Okay... and because the full-load injection times vary depending on the PDE size and power level, these boxes must be programmed with the MKB-specific, speed-dependent opening duration threshold for full-load detection.

Therefore, every "good" particulate diesel engine (PDE) control unit needs a full-load detection system and a maximum control system that defines the maximum total opening duration of the PDE injectors (to limit torque or soot emissions).
