Hello everyone,

My acquaintance has an old T3 van with a 1.6TD "JX" engine.
Unfortunately, the VP (vacuum pump) is leaking at the quantity control valve, but I'm hesitant to disassemble the pump without instructions.
I'll probably need to replace the timing belt soon anyway, so I could get everything done at the same time.
Does anyone have a manual for the old pump?
"I would also be grateful for instructions on how to adjust the start time of the boost without using any special tools, if that is even possible..."

"Thank you in advance for your help..."

If the adapter and dial gauge are essential for you, then you can't do without them!
You'll need that stuff.

Great instructions... thank you very much.

I only have a dial indicator; I don't have an adapter.
Since I've never done this type of work before, a guide with photos would be very helpful so I can visualize the process better.
Sure, I would also need a photo of the adapter. Maybe someone could recreate something like that.

You can definitely build adapters yourself.

It needs to have an M10 thread and be hollow-bored for the JX, as far as I know. A corresponding long pin needs to be attached to the dial gauge, which then goes through the adapter into the ESP.

The whole thing looks like this.

Instructions for this can be found in relevant literature, such as "Do-it-yourself" guides or "How-to" manuals.

You should only be relatively sure about what you're doing, because in the worst case, the car might not start, or you could end up causing even more damage.

Hello dieselmartin,

I found the picture on eBay.

Since I also need to replace the timing belt on my car soon, I did some searching on eBay and found several options...
I found a gasket for the pump for 13 euros, as well as the matching tool.
"Because replacing the timing belt on our car (Astra 1.7D) isn't straightforward, and you might have to adjust the fuel injection timing if you're unlucky, I also found a universal adjustment tool for Lukas and Bosch pumps from the same seller on eBay for 140 euros."

We have an automotive repair shop and have frequently replaced timing belts on both diesel and gasoline engines.
We only referred customers to the Bosch service center if there was an issue with the start of the subsidy process, as we didn't have any specialized tools.
Before we potentially damage something, we prefer to refer the customer to a colleague.
Since the tool is offered at a relatively low price on eBay, we will purchase it.

Thank you for your help, and wishing you a happy start to the new year.
