Hi.
The Leon 1M (model year 2001) has these footmat holder attachments (see picture).
Are there original clips available that I can use to secure the mats?
We have mats, but they are generic ones without any built-in holders.
Thank you.

At first glance, it looks like a counterpart with a hole.
There are three original inserts for the floor mats:
which were available with and without a hole, as well as those with a twist-lock mechanism (cap). The latter, at least in the case of VW, were only introduced later.
My recommendation would be to switch to the rotary closures directly, if it's not too much trouble for you. The shown snap fasteners are very tight, and it's very easy to spill the entire contents of the mat inside the vehicle if the fastener comes loose with a sudden jerk. The rotary closures are much easier to handle.
However, the mats need some adjustments (the hole in the rubber should be oval instead of round), and the retaining clips can only be replaced when the floor mat is lifted.
Your Passat probably has the "Knebel" (a type of seat cover), and you won't want anything else after that .

My Passat didn't have the shown retaining clips, but only the "holes" in the mats (everything was fine in the front and back). Apparently, the vehicles were delivered like that, and my workshop usually retrofitted those clips .
I then went to the place where I got the retaining clips and saw what they had available. They also had the corresponding pieces that go in the mat. However, there were several different versions, so you probably have to try a few to see which ones fit. If you're already doing this, I would also switch to the rotary locks.
The shown counter-holders are simply screwed into the mat with a coarse thread, so they can be easily removed by twisting. I'm not sure what "holding up the mat" refers to, but it probably relates to the locking mechanisms.

I'm also not very comfortable pulling things out. I always use my finger to push the retaining clip back, so nothing can happen.

So, the things in the picture are securely attached to the footwell of the car.
I need the corresponding pieces for the mats now.
I didn't want to modify anything, because it's not even my car...

1) Fixed? As I said, I only know of versions that are screwed on (you can slightly pierce the cladding and then screw it in like a wood screw). My mechanic also had that type on his vehicle.
2) Please pay attention to ensure you get the correct one. It's best to try it on the vehicle before purchasing (without the mat). As far as I can tell from looking, these items can be "clipped" into the mat. Of course, you'll need to make a hole in the mat.

YES, I want to put something on the mats.
I just thought it would be easier, and that I would get the part number in the first response... after all, they are original Seat fasteners.
Well, I guess I'll have to search for it myself, or have someone else look for the part.
"Nevertheless, thank you."

I couldn't find anything for the Leon, but the A4 (8E) seems to have the same "nipples" (part number 3D0864227).
The counterpart would be:
3D0864523 and 3D0864521 (ring and lid)... are not worth mentioning in terms of cost.

I would be cautious about that. The VW person gave me three to try, but the fourth one was already falling off due to its shape.

Certainly, as always, without guarantee!
However, I am relatively certain, or, according to my sources, this is the case.
However, when the costs are in the cent range, I think you can always order a small sample quantity if necessary.
or alternatively, search for the part number of the plastic nipple in the Leon... that way you can be sure.

Hello Mr. Antje,
The ones that screw in, those are probably the holders for the rear . I had those installed from the factory for my velour mats. They are really difficult to remove, so I left them in the back and put original rubber mats on top.
In the front, the correct, factory-installed holders are always inserted from below through the carpet and then clipped in place. It looks like it does in the Leon. That's why I mentioned lifting it up. It's not quite that simple. I also had the front mats, including the velour mats, from the factory, but I wanted rubber mats. That's when the whole thing started, because all the rubber mats in the warehouse had the wrong attachment system and had to be retrofitted...
Therefore, I also have extensive experience with the various types.
@ Martin :
If it's not your car, then of course, forget the suggestion about modifications.
As I already mentioned, there's quite a confusing situation with the versions. Even the parts specialists are hardly familiar with it. That's why I'm providing this detailed description for self-help .
For our 9N, we spent over a year, starting in mid-2003, trying to find the right rubber floor mats that would fit the factory-installed twist locks. By that time, the 9N had already been on the market for 1 1/2 years. The locking mechanisms were changed to twist locks with production month (MJ) 2003, but suitable floor mats were not available for a long time. Once again, VW did something exemplary... After about a year, a conversion kit was finally made available for the old floor mat sets, but the holes had to be cut from round to oval, as mentioned above .
"With my Golf in 2002, it was similar. The mats were installed in the same way as in the Leon, but the dealer only had the older mats in stock that didn't have the hole in the corresponding piece. Again, the mats had to be converted to the new locking mechanism, which required ordering a set of clips first. If VW hadn't constantly changed the locking mechanisms, I wouldn't have had to deal with this."
Good luck, and take the parts specialist with you in the car. Otherwise, it will never .
Gruß

Yes, exactly, at the back (but I haven't seen any indication of that from Martin either). The things were already installed at the front. The connectors for the mats are the same at the front and back, so I assumed that the things were the same at the front...

No, the front ones are in two pieces. I also find the back ones not very elegant, just sticking out into the carpet like that...
Therefore, the photo must be taken from the front.

Yes, that's correct. The photo shows the left nipple located in the passenger footwell.

SHIT
My sister's Comportline Passat, manufactured in November 2006, has the rotary knobs.
My 2007 Sportline's clips are a real pain.
What do I need to renovate?

You need a complete conversion kit for that, and they do exist. Then, you disassemble the original latches, remove them from the mats, and cut the mats to a slightly oval shape to fit. Next, install the new latches and lock them firmly in place. This requires a lot of pressure; it's best to protect the surface from scratches and press down firmly with the heel.
Working on the car will require more effort. As mentioned before, you need to remove the corresponding parts from underneath in the carpet and install the new ones. Therefore, you will need to loosen the carpet in certain areas.
