VAGCOM for Toyota Picnic: Compatibility?

Hello everyone.
I bought a VAG Com from Rainer a while ago (about half a year). Does anyone know if it can be used with Toyota vehicles?
Specifically, reading error codes and sensor values?
As far as I know, my VAG Com is "tuned" (modified). Where can I get a suitable diagnostic adapter that is compatible with Toyota and works with my VAG Com?

Hi,

If the Toyota supports the OBD2 diagnostic protocol, it will also have the 16-pin OBD2 connector (meaning no adapter is needed).
Simply press the OBD2 button in VAG-COM.

It's not working.

The connector fits, but VAG COM indicates that the vehicle may not be OBD-compatible and suggests directly addressing the control units. However, even when selecting the control unit directly (engine control unit), I received no response.
I then tried to read the error codes using a quick scan function, but this also failed because none of the control units responded.

Unfortunately, even the ÖAMTC (ADAC) has failed to solve this problem.

Ideas?

What is the year of manufacture of the Toyota, and is it possibly a diesel?
For diesel engines, the implementation of EOBD2 became mandatory later than for gasoline engines. It was only after 2004 that it became fully applicable to diesel engines with the general EOBD2 regulations.
Before that, it's manufacturer-specific whether a vehicle is generally OBD-compatible or not.

And if the manufacturer doesn't support this, even the best diagnostic adapter won't help.

OBD2 has only been mandatory for gasoline engines since the year 2000. Diesel engines were added later.
Unfortunately, the standardized 16-pin diagnostic connector does not provide any information about the protocol used in the vehicle or its OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) capabilities.
You can find the same component, for example, in a 1994 VW Corrado. At that time, the general OBD standard was still in its early stages of development.

So, a diesel engine from 1999 typically does not support the general OBD2 standard.
