Hello.

Around the year 4 AD, I'd be interested to know how widespread this technology has become among forum participants and what long-term problems have arisen so far.
Regarding the percentage of PDs, I will try to create a survey.

Please share any personal experiences or reliable information you may have regarding PD-related issues (e.g., from your own experience or from trusted sources like friends and family) in short replies. If the topic has been discussed in the forum before, please include links to those discussions.
Please only address issues specific to the Porsche Drive system, and avoid mentioning things like faulty glow plug fuses, etc.

With a bit of luck, we can compile a collection of common defects, similar to, for example, the "reliable" nozzle wear on VP engines, which, as far as I know, is not included in any maintenance plan.

Additional information for Rainer and moderators:
I would like to keep the survey at the top for about a week, so I'm marking it as "important."
If I am unable to revert it, please new_all_coholic.gif change it back to the default setting (e.g., my plastic dummy sometimes acts up).
Gruß Ulf

Hello.

Given the current level of engagement (56 views, 9 votes as of December 2nd at 4:25 PM), please note:

The vote regarding the VP-PD share in the forum was intended for everyone!

In addition, PD drivers should write about some problems icon_wink.gif.

Thank you and best regards.

Ulf.

I would do that, but so far, no problems icon_biggrin.gif.

Hello Ulf!
Okay, let me quickly report on this.
The only negative thing I can say about my car is the annoying, uneven idle speed that occurs when driving slowly without being in gear, sometimes more and sometimes less pronounced. However, I've also read about this problem from other TDIs in the error database, so it seems to be a common issue ("state of the art"). Otherwise, everything has been perfect so far. It's just a shame about the short timing belt replacement interval of 60,000 km for this model year!

Take care.

My Audi A6 with an engine producing 96 kW and the engine code 'AWX' experiences a brief hesitation or jerk when accelerating.
Last week, I had an A3 with 96 kW as a loaner car, and it didn't have this jerking issue.

Best regards, D.

Hello fellow diesel enthusiasts!

I've had my PD 150 since November 1st.
19,500 km and, thankfully, no problems so far.
Consumption: Out-of-town driving, 4.0 to 5.5 liters per 100 km, depending on traffic and driving style icon_wink.gif.
Highway: approximately 5.5 liters.
MFA is accurate to within +/-1%.
What startled me was the boost pressure: 1.5 bar with overboost.
up to 1.7 bar according to Conrad Schätzeisen icon_surprised.gif.

best regards, chrigu

I now have 63,000 km on the odometer.

A4 TDI PD 1,9 85 Kw. May 2001.

So far, no major issues, except for...

- With a completely cold start, it's very difficult to get moving.
(no power) okay, then 500 meters and then back to normal.
- around 2,500 to 3,000 RPM when accelerating.
It's a strong feeling of emptiness.

Fuel consumption for frequent short trips, city/country roads.
6.45 L/100km

Best regards, Holger.

AJM (85 kW) with 310 Nm of torque (although the engine control unit itself indicates a maximum of 308 Nm).

"48,000 km without any problems. When accelerating very gently, the engine briefly jerks around 2,000 RPM. After a very cold start, I sometimes stall the engine if I don't remember to give it more gas."

Hello,

I am generally satisfied with my car (a TDI 130 model from 2001), except for the noisy build quality and the occasional stuttering acceleration.

Greetings.
Uwe.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I live in Austria and have been following your posts for some time now, which I find very informative.
I drive a Passat with an AJM engine, manufactured in 2000, and it has only just under 30,000 kilometers on the odometer.
So far, I haven't experienced any significant issues other than a faulty battery.
I can confirm the issue with the initial acceleration, but it can be resolved with appropriate modifications.
The engine's torque and responsiveness are truly impressive.

Best regards, Roman.

Okay, I've never had any problems with our PD engine before, but I have a question now. We have an Audi A6 Avant 1.9 TDI, model year 2002, so it's the facelift version. It was built in July 2001, and I believe the engine code is AVF.

Someone just messaged me saying they have an Audi A6, manufactured in 2002, with a 1.9 TDI engine and the engine code 'AWX' with 96 kW.

Have they made any changes to the 1.9 TDI engine with 96 kW?
Or were there any problems with the AV fistula?

Post08-12-2002, 14:00    Subject: Thank you for your participation so far Quote

Hello again.

Having already observed a clear trend in the percentages of VP and PD shares, I'm now disabling the "important" tag and allowing the thread to scroll down normally.

As of December 8th, the overall percentage of plug-in vehicles is already at 46%, meaning that almost half of the survey respondents own a plug-in vehicle.
However, most of the vehicles are relatively "new".
The percentage of vehicles with diesel engines that have over 100,000 kilometers on the odometer is only 3%, while already 31% of vehicles with gasoline engines have exceeded that mileage.

Kein Wunder also, daß noch keine nennenswerten Langzeiterfahrungen mit PD's vorliegen. icon_sad.gif

And it's, in my opinion, somewhat embarrassing for the VAG group that a high-tech product like the PD engine still has some teething problems after about 4 years of production, and that no reliable solution has yet been found to address them.

While VPs (Variable Speed Drives) also aren't without their issues, resolving jerking problems is usually routine: it could be the NBF (Network Bus Filter), relay 109, or, in a worst-case scenario, the pump - but at least then the problem can be fixed.

I'm driving my second PD with 115 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. So far, I haven't experienced any major problems.
My current car has approximately 69,000 kilometers on the odometer.
- During the cold starts of the past few days (around -8°C), I noticed a heavy cloud of black smoke and extreme lack of power. The engine even stalled when starting up.
- The car's onboard computer indicates approximately a 4% increase in fuel consumption.
- I often drive long distances.
- The previous owner had a new 6-speed transmission installed.

Hello everyone,

ich fahre einen 115PD TDI der 1. Generation 06.99. BSure, here's the translation:

"ei" translates to "yes" in English. ca 32tkm habe ich mich zu einer Leistungskur im Hause Oettinger entschieden mit dem Ergebnis ca.1 Jahr erhöhten Fahrspaß bei vermindertem Spritverbrauch verschenkt. Bei "At approximately 95,000 km, the engine's pulling power became significantly worse, and the throttle response was almost non-existent around 1500 rpm. Since then, I have disabled the EGR system, and the car has been running better than ever. Next week, I have an appointment for an oil change, and it will be at approximately 105,000 km. I hope the car continues to run well! The original mass airflow sensor (MAF) is still in use; I verschandeln it once a year, which seems sufficient. I also bought a new replacement MAF from eBay for €99."
Conclusion after 105,000 km:
- The 115PD engine with a chip is highly recommended.
- The transmission has been further developed with customer input for approximately 2 years and should now be fully functional.
- The Golf IV is a clunker (it rattles and creaks more after just 3.5 years than my Opel Kadett D did when it was about 10 years old!).

Best regards,

Frank.

My PD150 has been running for 101,000 km without any mechanical issues.
LMM replaced once. EGR valve disconnected.

Hi! I'm just visiting the forum for the first time. I drive a PD100 (ATD) Golf from March 2001, and overall, I'm quite happy with the engine after 58,000 km.

While oil consumption is measurable, it's not a major issue (around 1/2 liter between service intervals). What's annoying is the occasional (rare) jerking or stuttering (as if the engine is dying) when coasting, for example, at traffic lights. Otherwise, the engine power is perfectly adequate for a two-door car. However, I do miss having a 6-speed gearbox, as I spend about 90% of my time on the highway. Compared to the previous 81kW TDI, the turbo lag isn't noticeable, but disappointingly, the fuel consumption isn't any lower.
There's more to criticize about the bodywork – it rattles, creaks, pops, and groans, and I've already had the window mechanism break twice.

Cheers,
Tom.
