Error Codes: Troubleshooting & Solutions

Hello everyone.

I was at the workshop today (with a brightly lit engine check light) and a flashing preheating indicator.

Preheating indicator was faulty due to a defective brake light switch. Error code was 16455.

However, there was another error stored in the fault memory that was silently deleted. The error code was 18263, indicating an "incompatible software version, occurring sporadically."
Now, my question to the experts:
Where does that come from?

The mechanic in the workshop mentioned chip tuning (which I don't have) or that the engine control units might have different identifiers. It's possible to change that, but it would be complicated.
It's not an option because the warranty has expired. If he thinks it's complicated, it will definitely take a long time and cost a fortune, or they might not be able to fix it.

Should I be worried now, or was it just a side effect of the faulty brake light switch?

EDIT: Also, the last software update was about 1 year ago, and the battery hasn't been disconnected for at least 2 months.
That was the only thing the search had turned up.

Can you arrange a complete diagnostic report?
Does it include all the control units? That is, the engine, possibly the transmission, airbag system, ABS, etc.

Not currently, certainly not.

As I mentioned before, they simply deleted the errors, and I only ordered my diagnostic software today.
So, it looks like nothing will be possible before the weekend if I can do this using VAGCOM on my own.

I'm not yet fully clear about the entire range of features. (Sorry)

Besides, I'm never going back to that repair shop again after getting ripped off today.

Replaced brake light switch (€6.70). Labor and diagnostics (€20.70).
That's the total amount, plus the "fairytale tax" (32.37€).

The audacity is that I had already mentioned this when I was still under warranty.
"The 'specialists' didn't find anything there either. And apparently, the brake light switch was also working."

The most important thing was to have the entire steering column switch replaced under warranty.

A complete scan includes addresses and any existing errors. What you posted are only integrated control units. This is only of marginal interest and helps very little with troubleshooting and narrowing down the problem.
