Hello,
I purchased a new fuel injection pump on eBay for my AFB (in a Passat 3B, 100,000 km, see /viewtopic.php?t=1746) for EUR 430 instead of EUR 1500. It was supposedly from a workshop clearance sale, described as being in new condition, never installed, and checked by a Bosch service center. The salesperson was able to present all of that in a fairly convincing manner.

Stupid question (I'm not an expert, I work in IT): If I have this part installed at my VW/Audi workshop, how do they know how the gear on the pump's drive shaft needs to be positioned when they install the timing belt?

Sure, here's the translation:

'Thank you in advance.'

However, your title indicates that you acquired a VP44 pump. If that's the case, you might have gotten a good deal, but the pump won't fit in your car. Within the Volkswagen Group, the Audi V-6 engine is the only model that has ever been equipped with such a pump.
Best regards, Lanz.

If I'm not mistaken, the V6-TDI engine was also available in the Passat 3B, and the specified engine code likely corresponds to the V6 model.

But on a completely different note... if the ESP system fails after 100,000 km, wouldn't that almost qualify for warranty coverage? It should really last much longer.

Best regards,

Jan.

You're right, Jan. The same V6 engine was also installed in the Passat for a short time. It had 110 kW and a 2.5-liter displacement. The engine codes were AFB and AKN. Sorry, I missed that.
Best regards, Lanz.

If someone accidentally or unknowingly loosens the fuel injection pump rotor, or if they don't want to pay the friendly price of €1600 for the repair, I might be able to help.
Having personally experienced problems with the VP44 fuel injection pump (A6 engine KB:AFB with 240,000 km), I have become quite knowledgeable about this topic.
