Since there are still people who believe that the VP44 fuel injection pump only allows for an injection amount suitable for approximately 210 horsepower due to some dubious quantity limitation (and because a few 'experts' like mathiasTDI96 and christians, who obviously have never disassembled a pump, claim this), I would like to debunk this rumor.

There is indeed a limit, but it only applies to the injection time. This means that, in combination with larger injectors, the pump can definitely handle a higher fuel volume! The limit, using injectors with double the flow rate and the correct boost pressure, is around 260-280 horsepower.

Amen.

If you mean...

Greetings from someone who has disassembled more than one VP44 pump.

I'm glad I can continue writing. Let's bring this back up, because I think it's worth explaining. The subtle nature of the original poster isn't quite...

Disassembling the pump isn't necessarily helpful either, because the time limit is controlled by the control unit, starting with a certain production year that I don't recall.
The magic number of 25 kW per cylinder comes from a yellow booklet. However, those familiar with the VP44 know that there are a number of variants with, among other things, different numbers and diameters of pistons. It is clear that 25 kW cannot be a fixed value in all cases.
There was also a racing version of the 320d with approximately 45 kW per cylinder. The fuel pump for that version was specially adapted by Bosch.
The VP44 is rightly considered to be sensitive. There isn't a market for pump components and injectors comparable to that of the VP37. This doesn't mean there's nothing available, but it makes entering the market very difficult, and one should also factor in the possibility of failures.
I would like to see for myself whether nozzles with double flow really offer a solution that is even remotely smoke-free.
Perhaps Rainer could chime in and tell us what other types of injectors are available, besides the Audi .201-.202 a-g models.

Merry Christmas!

I also read (or rather, used to read) the yellow manuals, as they are from the pump manufacturer, so I can only agree with what Christian knows. I haven't disassembled one myself, but I've seen one that was disassembled.

Hello,

Of course, the actual fuel injection volume is increased with larger injectors compared to the standard configuration, but the stated 260-280 horsepower is completely unrealistic.
Even at low loads, the fuel consumption is excessive, as the fuel simply trickles into the combustion chamber.

It wasn't really about moving things to the toilet; rather, it was about the self-promotional and sales-boosting motivations of the person who started the thread.
Therefore, I still believe that this topic either belongs in the trash or in the creator's voodoo magic show.

Best regards, Rainer.
