Hello,
I'm new to this forum. Now I'm having a problem with my Beetle.
"For some time now, my horn hasn't been making any sound; I've checked all the fuses (which fuse is actually for the horn?), and they're all fine." Is there a way to trigger the horn using VAGCOM, i.e., to make it sound, or to narrow down the error using VAGCOM (the error memory is empty, with no corresponding error code)?
Thank you for your help!
Fret.

Hello.
I don't recall off the top of my head how easy it is to access the horn on the Beetle, but maybe you could check if there's voltage at the horn (when it's activated)?

Okay, so first, locate the horn. Disconnect the connector, connect a test lamp to both terminals, and see if there's voltage present when the horn is activated. If there's no voltage and the fuse is good (the manual or fuse cover might indicate which fuse it is), then the problem could be with the horn's activation mechanism and the wiring connected to it.
If the horn shares a common supply line (Si) with another device, check the functionality of the other device.
If you absolutely want to check with VAG-Com: Put the notebook on the steering wheel and, when turning it on, press firmly against the dashboard , not meant seriously. Gruß, der Teileklaus

In my case, the horn is the first item listed under "diagnostics" in the vehicle's onboard control unit (ECU).
I get startled every time I walk through it.

If your vehicle only has one horn, that's perfectly fine.
My G4 has two. So, the signal horn and the horn are connected to the B-STG (for the alarm system).
The signal horn is connected directly to the horn button via a relay, depending on the vehicle. A system test and the associated diagnosis via the service computer are not necessarily possible.
The Beetle should normally be compatible with the G4 platform, which would make a diagnosis using VAGCOM unnecessary. Gruß Bertil

Okay, I would choose the simplest approach. And if there's an error entry, it's likely that the power supply still needs to be checked to isolate the problem.
When the error message indicates an implausible brake light signal, the problem could be anywhere from the brake light switch to the fuse, to the lamp itself and its contacts. That's why, instead of checking the fuse first, I prefer to measure the voltage directly at the load (e.g., the horn) to get a better idea of the issue. However, everyone can approach troubleshooting in their own way. Gruß, der Teileklaus

Technically, I have three.
High and low tones to blast away "idiots" and that Casio-watch-like beeping device of the DWA, which was a terrifying 130 dB device in the G3.

Hello,
First of all, thank you very much for the information and tips. I'll look for the horn this weekend.

VAG-COM didn't display any errors, no matter how firmly I pressed the laptop against the steering wheel .
Thank you everyone!
Fret.
