Astra 2006: Read VC Unit Data

Hi.

Can I use my CAN Profi VAGCOM to check if a 2006 Astra has ESP?

A friend thought she had, but that didn't stop her from getting off the train .

Hi Martin,

The warning light in the instrument cluster should provide information about this. Ultimately, the ESP system can only intervene to correct the vehicle's trajectory if the driver provides information about the intended steering angle. Depending on the ESP's sensitivity, it may only activate when there is already a significant amount of wheel slip, and in the case of inexperienced or overly aggressive drivers, it may not be able to prevent a loss of control or skidding.

OBD2 has nothing to do with the ESP (Electronic Stability Program).

The thing about the control light is not correct. My Golf doesn't have ESP. When I press the ASR button, the same symbol appears as with ESP (VW seems to have saved on control lights there)...

Hopefully, she hasn't injured herself. Have you checked the ABS/ESP unit under the hood? What's the part number?

I'm quite confused that you were told the car had ESP, but you can't find any evidence of it, either in the car's features or otherwise.

I also read that it might be installed in the Astra H, but it cannot be deactivated.

But a 120 horsepower CDTI Astra GTC without ESP? I can't believe that.

Take a look at the letter; if it was imported from the EU like mine, it probably doesn't have ESP, .

How about simply calling an Opel authorized service center and having them check the vehicle's VIN through their system to see if it's listed in the vehicle's equipment list? It should be in there...

Sure, that's possible, but...

(1) It's not my car.
(2) I trust my own work more than I trust service people who often seem unhelpful or uninterested.
(3) I sent it to the Opel dealer specifically for that reason.
