... or perhaps the old-fashioned slides?

I'm getting a 6N2 in today that has power window problems, and I want to be prepared.

Greetings.

Hi Martin,

I just checked my Polo modification manual for the 6N model. It distinguishes between models produced up to 9/99 (6N) and from 10/99 onwards (6N2) in the door panel removal instructions. The first version (1 1/2 pages) mentions "damping foils," while the latter version (1/2 page) does not. So, you probably won't find any, but let me know if that's actually the case (I'm interested because the Ibiza model from 99 onwards is likely more similar to the 6N2 than to the 6N in that regard).

Best regards,

Jan.

One doesn't exclude the other. Some doors have integrated frames, while others are one-piece. Some doors have a plastic film, some have a foam component, and in others, the inner metal panel is so large that only a few sealing plugs are needed to keep water out.

Which car has door frames that don't seal the entire door at once?

"All genuine Audis from recent years, starting with the Audi 100 C3 / Type 44 and the Audi 80 B3 / Type 89, except for the newer A4 models. The engine support includes the window frame, and in the lower section, the support is completely integrated into the door."

The facelift models of the 6N Volkswagen Polo use polystyrene films. These are glued to the metal with butyl cord and can easily become leaky if not properly sealed again.

Regarding problems with power windows: the passenger-side window isn't working either. It draws a lot of current, but doesn't move at all. If you find anything out, let me know. I heard that the guide rollers might get stuck...but I don't know if that's true, as it's still too cold outside to check properly.

Yes, gray film with butyl adhesive.

The cables of the eFH are rusted.
The motor strains excessively, often causing it to shut down due to the "clamping protection" mechanism.

Since the window can still be pushed up slightly, even if the motor is no longer able to do so, there's likely nothing wrong with the guide rails or the sliding mechanism itself.

So, the mechanism needs to be replaced...
