ALE: Troubleshooting GRA Issues in MKB

'I retrofitted the GRA (Gearbox Retrofit Adapter) to my Golf 4 Cabrio TDI with engine code ALE (Golf 3 wiring was already present up to the fuse box). Everything is properly connected, and the control unit correctly recognizes the switch positions for ON/SET/RES. However, sometimes the control unit sporadically throws error code 671 (GRA not working), which indicates a faulty E45 (GRA switch unit) or a wiring fault/short circuit. Does anyone have information about the function of the GRA, specifically regarding brake and clutch signals? Does the GRA have any issues related to those?'

Hello Olli,

The new GRA switch I bought failed after less than a year. I suspect that some loose metal contacts inside might be causing the sporadic errors you're experiencing.
Of course, your wiring might also be loose or not properly insulated from each other.
As soon as the clutch pedal switch or brake pedal switch is activated, the GRA turns off. However, this does not create an error entry.
