Hello everyone,

I'm completely new here and was referred to you by a friend.

Of course, I had done some searching beforehand, but I only found posts related to my problem, and nothing about the solution I was considering.

The following problem:

I'm not getting a speed signal in VAG-COM, and the error memory also indicates that this signal is not present.

The speedometer is working perfectly.

The cause of this is likely due to a slightly altered environment surrounding the control unit.

The vehicle is a 1996 Passat VR6 Variant.

However, it's equipped with a complex turbo conversion and the 6-speed gearbox from the Golf 4 V6 (GKB DRP), with the corresponding sensor adapted accordingly.

The speedometer sender differs only in its coding, not in its pin configuration, from the original connector (which it still works with perfectly).

I noticed this yesterday during an attempted measurement using kpower, which was unable to process the imported log file because it lacked speed data.

My question is: Is it possible to generate the missing speed signal using the wheel speed sensor signals in VAG-COM?

Thank you in advance for your answers...

Where is the error displayed?
MSG or AI?
Since the speedometer is working, it's probably referring to the MSG (Multi-System Gauge).
The speed sensor on the transmission consists of two parts. One part provides the signal for the instrument cluster's speedometer display, while the other is for the MSG (Multi-System Gateway). If your MSG part is not working, there is likely a wiring fault. This means that there is no signal reaching the MSG. The speedometer is not affected by this.

Intercepting signals from ABS sensors is very dangerous and also not permitted. Please don't do it; an ABS failure is not something to be taken lightly.

You seem to completely misunderstand me!

I don't want to mess around with the wiring of the ABS sensors, but I just want to know if it's possible to generate the speed signal from the wheel speed sensors using VAG-COM.

That's exactly what I wrote!

By the way, the error is displayed in the engine control unit, because in the 1996 model year, the instrument cluster cannot yet be read out.

You're understanding me correctly, but what you want to achieve won't work without a hardware modification!
You cannot query the MSG and ABS functions simultaneously.

Can you guess which AI I used for my renovation?

If I were you, I would look for the error in the speed signal, and then everything should be fine.

I'm sorry that you seem to think I'm intellectually inferior.

I can only speculate about the reasons, but I understand it.

Those who can read have a clear advantage.

It is thoroughly described there that the required speed cannot be derived from the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).
The STG component is sourced externally, while the rest comes from the MSTG.
