Hello,
I'm going crazy again. My Golf AJM has a fuel consumption that I find to be too high.
I drive the same route to work every day, approximately 15 kilometers. It's a mix of bypass roads and highway (AB), where the speed limit is 100 km/h. I barely touch the accelerator pedal and keep the engine RPM below 2000.
In the winter, I was averaging around 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers. The onboard computer indicated a consumption of approximately 5.8 to 6.2 liters per 100 kilometers until I reached my destination.
Now that summer is here and the warm-up phase is shorter, I'm using 7-7.2 liters.
Is this really normal?
"Recently, I've also noticed that when driving around town, the onboard computer (MFA) shows a consumption of between 7 and 9 liters. For example, when I'm driving my girlfriend's Ibiza with its 101 horsepower in the city, it still drops slightly and comes out to around 6-7 liters."
However, I have to say that when I drive longer distances, over 50 or 100 kilometers, at 140 km/h, my fuel consumption is around 6 liters, which I think is still normal. Of course, the consumption increases even further beyond that. It goes up to 7.4 - 8.5 liters. You can't expect miracles.
I have adjusted the timing according to a technical article. The vacuum sensor on the turbocharger is new.
Could the high consumption be related to issues in the pressurized or vacuum system?
Thank you very much for your help! Golf 4 TDI;6-Gang; PD; AJM; 85KW/115PS; 180t KM; AGR defekt; Saugrohr entdrosselt;

If normal performance is present, then generally not.
Possibly, the rear brake pads are stuck. On the highway (if you're not braking or only lightly braking), they may eventually wear themselves free over time.

Under these conditions, I'm getting around 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers (roughly 47 mpg) with my boat in the summer. However, it's not really enjoyable driving. 3B5 AJM

Thank you for the answers.
"@mserge: Yes, I'm using the air conditioning. However, it only uses about half a liter of fuel."
@ BM : It's definitely not fun. I used to drive a 3-series TDI with 90 horsepower. That car was actually enjoyable to drive, both in summer and winter, with or without air conditioning. Whether it was the 120 or 170 version, it consumed between 6.2 and 6.8 liters per 100 km. It had about 340,000 kilometers on the clock when I finally got rid of it.
How can I rediscover the joy of riding again? The rear wheels spin freely, so the brakes should be working properly. Golf 4 TDI;6-Gang; PD; AJM; 85KW/115PS; 180t KM; AGR defekt; Saugrohr entdrosselt;

Can anyone give me a tip on how to rediscover the joy of driving?
StrecFuel consumption and driving characteristics are approximately 7.5-8 liters per 100 kilometers.
Could it be that something is completely wrong? What else can I check?
There's definitely something wrong here, or am I doing something completely wrong? Golf 4 TDI;6-Gang; PD; AJM; 85KW/115PS; 180t KM; AGR defekt; Saugrohr entdrosselt;

Somewhere, there's definitely a problem, or am I doing something completely wrong? | Has the overnight charging consumption clearly changed with the different NW settings?
Otherwise: excessive boost pressure (subtly just below the emergency threshold) can significantly increase fuel consumption, as can an aging mass airflow sensor.
But without diagnostic data, the whole thing remains a gamble... Gruß Ulf

Thank you, Ulf, for the feedback!
Of course, I can't calculate the fuel consumption for short trips as quickly. However, as mentioned above, my "usual route" also provides a certain indication through the average fuel consumption (MFA), right? Such a large difference, especially in summer, probably shouldn't be happening. The fact is that the acceleration from low speeds with the OT (presumably referring to an engine setting or mode) was absolutely terrible and undriveable.
What log settings would I need to use to obtain a meaningful result for a full-load acceleration test from 3800 RPM to 4000 RPM? Would that provide any useful data? Golf 4 TDI;6-Gang; PD; AJM; 85KW/115PS; 180t KM; AGR defekt; Saugrohr entdrosselt;
