A4 Doku: Dimming Display Issue (1998-2000) (Solution)

The contrast of the central display is decreasing.

Cause:
Temperature control of the display unit is faulty: After prolonged driving and the associated warming of the control panel, the central display gradually loses contrast from one side in vehicles with a driver information system. This can progress to complete, uniform darkening.


Solution:

Model year 98:
During the 1998 model year, the first-generation immobilizer was replaced by the second-generation immobilizer.

There are no further optimization options available for vehicles equipped with immobilizer system 1.
In vehicles equipped with immobilizer system 2, the corresponding optimized dashboard insert from the 1999 model year can be used.

Model year 99:
Replace the control panel insert.
