What actually happens if I install a 180 hp engine control unit (ECU) on my AFB 150 hp TDI engine?
"The STG (throttle control unit) is defective in the known vehicle, and it might be possible to get one from a 180 model. Is this feasible in terms of soot emissions and performance? I think it should be possible to adjust it."
Has anyone had any experience with this?

Aside from the fact that you would need to adapt the engine control unit (ECU) to the key injection system (KI), it wouldn't make any difference because the electronics of the electronic stability program (ESP) and the size of the injectors are very likely to be different.
What's wrong with your 'old' ECU? Is it completely unresponsive, or are you just experiencing occasional errors? What are the part numbers of both ECUs? If the old ECU is still capable of being diagnosed, and your car is currently out of commission, you could send me both ECUs, and I'll try to flash your data onto the 180hp ECU. It's worth a shot. (I've done the same thing myself before).

As far as I know, the engine control unit (ECU) is always ordered based on the vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Therefore, it cannot be easily linked to a different vehicle. You will definitely encounter problems with the ECU if you don't find a good programmer. I would advise against doing that.
If you install a 30 horsepower chip tuning kit, you'll also get your 180 horsepower.
Best regards.
