Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts.

I have now owned a Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI with an 81 kW (ASV) engine for over 6 years, and I have personally driven almost 184,000 kilometers.
So far, I haven't experienced any problems in the engine area, except for a pump failure related to biodiesel.

This week, I disassembled and had the injectors tested for the first time. It turned out that all four still have an opening pressure of 215 bar.
Factory specifications state a value of 220 bar, while Bosch specifies 221 bar.

Now, to my question.

Is there a tolerance range, or what is the lower limit at which it becomes necessary to have the nozzle/nozzle holder combination inspected and repaired?
While I'm not a complete beginner when it comes to fixing things, I don't have much experience in this particular area.

Thank you in advance! icon_wink.gif

Best regards,

Hello!

It would be more beneficial to pay ten times more attention to the spray pattern and jet formation of the nozzles than to the opening pressure!
Going back and forth a couple of times is nowhere near as bad as a nozzle tip that dribbles instead of atomizing. icon_wink.gif

The spray pattern is perfectly fine for all four nozzles. As I mentioned before, my concern is about whether or not it makes sense to overhaul the "pair bar," and if so, when.

Hi,

Based on your description, it would hardly make sense to replace them.

Please remember that the 160,000 km (approximately 100,000 miles) figure is highly dependent on driving conditions and fuel tank capacity. It's likely that you would still use slightly less fuel with new injectors, but whether it's worth it is something you can calculate based on those factors.

Best regards, Rainer.

Once we had the nozzles outside, both I and the friendly Bosch employee noticed that they were still in pretty good condition considering the mileage they had covered.

That's why I asked my question. Because I don't need a new one yet. The engine should run "almost" like new again. It seems that the original powerful acceleration has decreased somehow. It still achieves top speed, but it takes longer than before (at least, that's how it appears icon_confused.gif).

You said it, when I asked about the price for a set of new nozzles, I was immediately shocked. icon_confused.gif
