Hello diesel mechanics!

I have test-driven my Golf 2 with a TDI AFN engine several times. The highest speed I reached was just under 50 km/h. During these tests, I noticed a rattling and rumbling sound coming from the front left side, which I could also feel. I suspect it's the driveshaft.
It's bolted to the transmission and the hub. I had to use some force to get it in during installation. Could it be that the joints are bent too far inward? Does anyone else have a Golf 2 with an AFN engine, and which driveshaft did you install on the driver's side?
I would appreciate responses.
Olli.

Enjoy your meal! / Have a good lunch!

Which transmission?
original Golf II (not a G60)?
Or the one with cable actuation from AFN?

Hello,

If you use the drive shafts from older 020 transmissions (manual transmissions) with cable-operated transmissions, it won't work because they are slightly too long and interfere with the internal balance -- this is the phenomenon you're experiencing.

"Use the drive shafts from a Corrado or a Golf2 G60!"

P.S.:
Have you managed to get that ABS display working yet? For this case, I also have an interesting page (or was it User Olli - with two "l"s?).

Hello.

Thank you for your responses. I have the original transmission from the 81 kW TDI model with hydraulic components.
Clutch. I bought a driveshaft from an 81 kW TDI engine on eBay and installed it.
Let's try catching that wave.
Best regards.
Olli.

Hello,

I'm not going to make any definitive statements about that, as I don't know for sure.
I believe the Golf 3 has different control arms (but they fit into the Golf 2), I mean, the track width is different... and that's why the length of the driveshaft doesn't match.

Regards,

EDIT:

According to Wikipedia and various forums (MT), the Golf 3 has a +3cm difference in height at the front axle, which is 1.5cm per side.
And precisely by that amount, your "new" driveshaft from eBay will inevitably be too long...

Hello.

The Golf 3 wave (81 kW) was easy to install. I haven't driven it yet because my main system needs to be re-read. I'm looking for someone who can do that for me and lives in the area of Kreis Warendorf, specifically around 59229 Ahlen. If you're interested and have time, please send me an email.
Best regards.
Olli.
