After I removed the air filter housing from the Passat, I had trouble remembering where the water drain goes.

I put it in position 1. But when everything was assembled and I put the pictures together for a how-to guide, I realized that version 2 looked better because it has NO moving parts.
At speed 1, the starter motor may spin freely without engaging.
