Hello community,

Does anyone know how to operate the VGT valve?
I want to know which type of current goes to each of the two pins when {CONDITION}.
Is the car idling?

Greetings

richard

Hi

When in standby mode, the VTG is experiencing the fastest pressure build-up, with approximately 12 volts at the valve.

Hi Ulf,

I just measured it, and it's around 7.5V. Also, the VGT strut isn't fully extended.
Can this constellation have an impact on the values of the LMM when fully loaded?

hello

Hi,

I just measured the voltage of the VGT solenoid on a Passat V6 TDI, and it's about 7.8 to 8 volts, which is similar to what I have. So, it's probably just a problem with the vacuum control unit, where the linkage isn't fully retracted.
I'll try it by connecting the vacuum hose from the Passat to my cylinder to see how it works.

A small piece of information about measuring timed voltages:

"Clocking" means switching the voltage between two fixed values. In a specific application, these are approximately mass and battery voltage.
The duty cycle of a pulsed voltage describes the percentage of time that the 'on' state (i.e., one of the two fixed values) exists in relation to the period duration of the voltage.

When measuring pulsed voltages, it is therefore important to have a measuring instrument that measures the time-averaged value of the voltages.
Ideally, an analog multimeter that already incorporates an averaging function due to its inherent design characteristics.

Hello Richard,

Before you start worrying too much about the key ratio under idle conditions, perhaps it would be better to check it under full load first. How to recognize from the target value table that there is often a certain range.

Further information regarding the measurements:

a pointer instrument, as well as cheap digital meters, display the arithmetic mean. Better digital multimeters display the true RMS (Root Mean Square) value. In analog and DIY meters, the scale division is set so that the true RMS value is displayed for AC with a sinusoidal waveform (230V~ = 325 Vss). Therefore, they display the true RMS value for sinusoidal voltage. A true-RMS multimeter also does this for rectangular or other waveform shapes.

Therefore, please be careful when working with PWM signals. The indication of a measured voltage in the DC measurement range is **COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE**. Every part from a hardware store will show something different. It's only useful for a rough estimate, like 'voltage present or not.' In such cases, either connect an oscilloscope or use a VAG-COM to read the actual duty cycle.

See you, Gremlin
