Evening!

Does anyone live in or near the Göttingen area who has a diagnostic tool and can help me unlock my GRA?

I have a 3BG model from 2001.

Best regards,
bad_taste

Hi... so, I know someone from Mühlhausen, but that's quite a distance away, isn't it?! Best regards.

Okay, but Mühlhausen is really quite a distance, about 80km each way. I was busy with work all day today, so I'll see if I can make it to a workshop tomorrow to have the system unlocked.
What on earth is this supposed to cost?

Hello bad_taste,

I'd say somewhere between 0 and 20 euros.

I had my self-installed graphics card unlocked for 10 DM (which was in 2001, and due to the currency conversion of 2:1, it's now naturally 20 euros icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif), for the coffee machine's cash register... and it immediately didn't work!!!

A little side story:
I also wanted to have my flashing inspection light reset at the same time, but the icon_wink.gif categorically refused (due to liability and blah, blah, blah...).
Of course, I didn't have a VAG-COM device or a compatible interface.
However, the circumstances described above led me to build my own interface and have VAG-COM unlocked.

I have no regrets!

Because, even though the GRA (Gearbox Release Assist) was correctly activated, it couldn't function because the same workshop, a few years prior, had repaired the clutch master cylinder free of charge and, crucially, had not properly reinstalled the clutch switch, which is mandatory for the TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine. The clutch was constantly 'engaged,' meaning the GRA couldn't function.
With VAG-COM, even a complete beginner could complete the entire process in just fifteen minutes.
If the workshop had charged me for investigating their own mistake, it would probably have been more expensive than just getting the unlock code.

Best regards,
K.O.

I've also thought about having my own diagnostic system. Apparently, you can buy such an adapter (although I'm not even sure which one...) for just a few euros.
But somehow, the software seems too expensive to me. A few hundred euros? That's too much for me while I'm a student. Also, I don't really have an overview of what's even available out there.
Not that I would buy something like that, and then find out that the software doesn't offer any options for customization or modification.

Best regards,

I'm from Kassel, specifically from Helsa. I could unlock the GRA for you; I did it myself on my Golf. The prerequisite is that everything is connected correctly.

Thank you for the offer. I tried it out last Friday in a free session, and even got it for free icon_razz.gif.
On the diagnostic device, you had to click through to the correct menu and then flip a switch icon_exclaim.gif.
Of course, it didn't work. The cruise control light on the speedometer was still illuminated when I turned it on, but I couldn't determine the speed.
Then I went back again today, and we looked at it again, but everything was turned on and there were no error messages.

It still works, even now icon_question.gif.

Greetings.
