Hello everyone!

While I still have some time before the timing belt needs to be replaced, 'a wise man prepares ahead!'

Vehicle: Audi A4, Year: 06/2000, Engine: AJM.

According to the service booklet, the timing belt and tensioner need to be replaced after 90,000 km.

Questions:

Is the maintenance interval correct? (It's often changed, you know.)

Is it worthwhile to use original spare parts, or are parts from aftermarket suppliers also suitable?

Hazet is selling a tool set for timing belt replacement on PD engines for 65 EUR + VAT. Is there a cheaper option available?

Sure, here's the translation:

'Thank you in advance!'

@Rainer K.: The forum is getting better and better. Congratulations!

Best regards,
Jürgen

Allegedly, the maintenance interval for all PD engines has been reduced to 60,000 miles. However, for brand new engines, it seems to be back to 90,000 miles. The best thing to do is ask your friendly VW dealer; they have an up-to-date list icon_wink.gif.

Hi Jürgen,

At my parts dealer, I get the parts that VW also sells icon_exclaim.gif. For example, on the 1z, the timing belt is from Gates (PD?)!

Best regards, Christian.

Thank you for the answers!

How can you tell which suppliers provide parts to the VAG group?
IMO only lists a part number, not a manufacturer, on the original spare parts.

Regards,
Jürgen.

...that's incorrect; generally, original VW replacement parts also have the manufacturer's name on them (sometimes just the logo or the name as an abbreviation), along with the VW part number and the manufacturer's own part number. The timing belts for the PD engines clearly have 'Continental' or 'ContiTech' printed on them.

@Jürgen:

The website service.beetle24.de contains, among other things, an up-to-date list of the maintenance intervals for all VW diesel and gasoline models, including models from 2003.

Regards,
Roger.

Thanks again for the tips!

According to the above-mentioned. The timing belt and tensioner must be replaced every 60,000 km.

And once again, the fuel savings can be put towards the repair shop, unless you do the work yourself!

Regards,
A Jürgen who is frustrated with VAG.

"First buy, then inform" is the wrong way around...

I also have the AJM, but I specifically ordered the MJ01 icon_smile.gif 3 months later...
