Hello,

Is it possible, for example with the 3BG system, to simulate the door mechanism, i.e., to determine the force required to close the door?
First, with my 3BG (Volkswagen Golf Mk5), it requires less force to close three of the doors. Three of them are actually too easy to close, meaning most passengers slam the doors shut. This bothers me every time. Second, I would like that "plop" sound when closing all the doors. In the past, it was possible to adjust the "bumper" (rubber stopper). Is that still possible? Or would I have to replace the door seals, as they may have become less elastic over the years?
Are there any tricks, perhaps from the taxi industry?

Nowadays, doors are designed to close easily. If there are no wind noises and the doors fit properly all around, then this is correct. Otherwise, you can adjust the lock or the door frame.

There's probably nothing you can do to help passengers who are still stuck in the 1960s except to shout loudly.

Hello,
Okay, I looked at the mechanism superficially a while ago and couldn't initially figure out how to adjust anything. Do you have a diagram or instructions? The driver's side door makes a chirping sound when the car is stationary (with the engine running), which means the door seal is probably rubbing against the door frame. I suppose I could adjust it to be a bit "tighter."

Hello,

The latch needs a slight adjustment. Otherwise, try applying a little silicone oil to the door seal. The chirping sound could also be coming from the window (not closed properly, worn rubber) or be caused by the door panel.

Bye.

Hello,

I used to have that "chirping" sound with the driver's door as well. I tried lubricating everything with grease, oil, and special cleaning products on the seal, but nothing worked!

After extensive test drives and listening carefully near the door, it turned out that the cardboard trim inside the door was rubbing against the paint and causing the squeaking. Normally, there's a thin string of "cloth" between the cardboard trim and the door, but this was missing. It was replaced with something similar, and since then, the noise has stopped.

Sven.

Hello,
The latch and the associated lock in the door are secured with multi-tooth internal screws. What size do I need to adjust something? It's not Torx, is it? Where/what can I adjust? The latch or the lock?

The screws are 8mm internal Torx screws. You can adjust either the entire door frame or the internal mechanism of the door for the window frame.

Hi Christians,
Okay, I sprayed some silicone spray on the upper rear "corner" of the door frame and on the corresponding rubber seal on the body (towards the upper front corner of the rear door), and the squeaking is gone. It couldn't be simpler. If it comes back, I'll try adjusting the door hinges.

Hi.

In my opinion, the reason why the doors become harder to lock over time is due to the seals, which are not infinitely elastic.

They are manufactured to be beautifully voluminous and are then transported to the car.
When I picked up the car at the AutoCity, the doors still made a loud "thump" sound.

After 2 years of the doors being almost constantly closed (who parks their car with the doors open or drives with the doors open?), the seals have become "compressed." They no longer catch the door as early or as firmly when closing, so it slams into the lock harder.

"Mine still sound great," I thought, until I recently had the chance to try out my friend's new 3C...

Hi Martin,
Yes, that's certainly a possible explanation. I was also thinking about replacing the door seals. However, I suspect that replacing them completely on all 4 doors would likely be (too) expensive! Does anyone have an idea of the potential cost for a 2003 3BG Variant? It's probably going to be quite pricey...

You can estimate around 40 euros per casting part at VW.

Merci Pax!
Let's see... depending on my mood, I might even consider using it for the front doors.
Sigh.

Hello,
Are the door seals glued in on the 3BG model? What all needs to be disassembled to replace them? It seems like some trim pieces need to be removed.
It doesn't seem possible to just peel them off and stick new ones on (except maybe on the tailgate).
You're welcome, haithamina.
