Hi,

After approximately 1.5 years of inactivity on the diesel mechanic forum, I would like to rejoin.
I traded in my Golf 4 TDI ARL 4 Motion in September 2008 for a Golf 5 GTI Edition 30. I was very happy with my GTI, but the Super Plus fuel and the fuel consumption figures, which were often above 12 liters, started to annoy me. Last week, it finally happened: my GTI was sold.

Now I'm looking for a new car. I'm considering an Audi A4 B7, ideally equipped with the 2.0-liter 170 hp TDI engine.

Since I've been driving a VW Golf since I was 18, I haven't had much experience with Audis.

Therefore, I would like to ask you what speaks for or against buying an A4 B7. Perhaps you could also provide me with some consumption figures. When does the timing belt need to be replaced on this Audi? Is there a lot of trouble with that at 120,000 km?
Perhaps someone could send me a company letterhead so that I can inquire about the maintenance costs with the insurance company.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards.

Tom.

Isn't that the exact car that the boss drives?

Personally, I find the Audi A6 to be too small and then too expensive.
In addition, in a front-wheel-drive vehicle with a longitudinal engine, the force must be redirected around a corner icon_smile.gif.

The ZR should actually last even longer, possibly up to 150,000 km - at least, that's what I've experienced with my VWs from 2007.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

Hello,

Based on my previous experiences with the current A4, I can say that it is very quiet.
Actually, it's very similar to the A6 4F. They are practically the same.

What I particularly liked: A customer came in with an A4 that had 215,000 km on the odometer, and contrary to my expectations, the car is still very quiet inside.
No cracking, rattling, etc.

The current A4 is about 20cm narrower than the A6 4F, which is an advantage when driving on the narrow streets in Switzerland or in parking garages. The 4F is a great car, but it's not ideal for tight city traffic or parking.

Best regards, Rainer.

icon_question.gif

A6 4F = 1855 mm wide.
A4 B8 = 1826 mm
A4 B6/B7 = 1766 mm

(all without mirrors)

You meant the length, right?

No, I meant the width. icon_question.gif

You're right! About 2-3 weeks ago, I looked up all the dimensions of the A3 to A6 models on audi.de and wrote down the measurements relevant to the garage on a piece of paper.
I've just noticed that the A4 format with a border is 1 cm wider than the A6 format, and that there's hardly any difference without the border.
I think I wasn't paying attention, and I measured the dimension with a mirror for the A6 and without a mirror for the A4...

That changes my parking situation completely. I actually wanted the A4 precisely because of the misread 20cm less!

Thank you for the information, Rainer.
