Hello,
I need the help of another VP37 driver... and specifically, I need a comparison value. When I tap on my tensioner with a piece of wood, I hear a funny "boing" sound, similar to the sound of a spring being compressed.
The shock absorber has 208,000 km on it, and I've had a progressively louder hissing sound during acceleration for the past 50,000 km. It started around 3000 rpm and is now noticeable from around 2500 rpm. However, it's only audible when accelerating, and is barely audible during normal operation.
I initially suspected the exhaust gas recirculation or intake air duct, but I've ruled those out.
Could the noise be coming from the suspension strut? And could someone tap on theirs and tell me if it remains "silent"?
Greetings,
and thank you,
Georg |

Timing belt or timing chain?
At 208,000 km, it should definitely be the timing chain tensioner. Simply replace it, and that's it.
Everything else is a waste of time.
These things naturally stretch out. Mine already makes noises after 55,000 km. Transparency, Teamwork
... there was another T.
I don't know what the f*ck it was. |

KRR-Spanner...
The ZR has been replaced, and there was no change in the noise. The strange thing is that the noise only appears when accelerating from 2500umin, and disappears as soon as I release the gas.
I also noticed the "booing" sound when tapping on it. I'll see if it appears during the test drive on Monday, if it does, I'll still try it, otherwise, I'll leave it as is ^^ |

I've replaced everything (ZR, Conti - WP - RR - spanner) and I used a Rouville chain tensioner.
Just a tip: buy something else :-/
It sounds exactly the same as the one that had already done 190,000 km.

I've also had good experiences with Ruville so far, but the Spanner I've just ordered is from INA (http://www.ina.de/content.ina.de/de/index.jsp), which is one of the largest bearing manufacturers in the area.

yes, it might still work ;)
To expand, as I see it, it's fixed with a screw, so I would loosen it and, with the other hand, unscrew the screw, then the KRR can be attached - does this work from above, or do I really have to remove the side engine cover as SEAT describes? |

Okay, if I have time tomorrow, I'd like to replace it.
It's not a problem with the Ibiza, I was thinking of removing the right wheel, removing the engine side cover, then using a person underneath and a wrench to insert it, while the other person above loosens the nut with a spanner. I just don't want to remove the belt if I can avoid it... or should I remove it anyway?
I think the theory is that the belt slips slightly under full load, even though it still looks okay. However, if you rub your finger over the belt, you'll find that it's covered in black residue.
This would explain why the belt only makes noise under load, because the spring tension isn't sufficient. |
