Hello
I have a 90hp TDI engine, with just under 170,000 km on it.
Recently, I've noticed that the car is using a lot of oil.
Oil leaks are a problem everywhere.
A colleague told me that it might be the head gasket.
Can this be? If not, what could be the reason?

Hallo,

Ursachen des Ölverbrauchs können vielfältig sein.
- Kolbenringe
- Lagerschaden an Turbo
- Ventilschaftdichtungen
...

Hi

More than 1 liter / 1000 km is more than what the engines are originally designed for, and therefore indicates some kind of defect.

A provisional compression test can also be performed yourself; it is described in the "Used Car Tips" section on Rainer's website.
If it doesn't cause anything serious, it could be due to the causes that Michael described, which are all quite unpleasant (because they are expensive to repair) icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif
