To perhaps shed some light on the adapter confusion, I suggest we conduct some statistical analysis. Maybe we can gain some insights into which adapter works well with which (especially engine control unit - ECU). Perhaps we can also find a justification for the existence of the non-optically isolated adapters.
I was thinking of including the following information:
STG: Type of control unit (e.g., engine, transmission, ABS, WFS, ...).
Identifier: VAG number of the power-on message (e.g., 028906021BF)
Adapter: Adapter used (e.g., Noxon, Ulf x.y, Maik, ...).
Version: ...of VAG-COM that was used (those who want can also try with multiple versions).
Data transmission rate: Baud rate at which VAG-COM can communicate with the control unit without errors (9600, 4800, ...).
Sync Attempts: The number of attempts VAG-COM needs to establish communication.
Sampling rate Group 1: Value displayed by VAG-COM during logging. To obtain comparable values for data throughput, only this one group should be active.
Computer: Brief description of the computer used (e.g., CPU, clock speed, memory, OS, USB or PCMCIA COM port, ...).
Notes: e.g., occasional interruptions while the engine is running, ...
Other relevant points can certainly be added as needed.
To streamline and organize the data, I suggest you send me the data.

[email protected]) and then either post the results here or forward them to Rainer for publication.
Perhaps Rainer can also make the collected 'raw data' available for download, so that everyone can draw their own conclusions from it.
