Hi there.
My parents have had a 2006 Touran for the past two weeks... the engine is the 'problematic' BMN.
Mileage is 76,000 km. The lambda value is between 3200 and 3800, consistently around 1.25, which seems okay so far.
'What bothers me is that when you start the engine for the first time of the day, or when it's completely cold, it takes a relatively long time to start. It's not like it's struggling to turn over, but you have to wait until it actually starts running before you can release the key. I read somewhere about cold start problems with the 2-liter engines that can be fixed?'
I own a 2010 2.0 TFSI Scirocco with a DSG transmission. On my commute to work (25 km of country road), I can achieve 6.2-6.5 liters per 100 km if I'm careful. I can't get the Touran to do that; it doesn't go below 6.8 liters per 100 km, and that's even when driving very slowly.
'Is there a list of target values somewhere for the sensor data blocks? The error memory is empty, and the filters are relatively new... I can't find any damage either... The maximum speed, according to the speedometer, is something over 210, so that seems okay.'
How does that relate to the balancing waves? I've read about problems with them, but the person who wrote about it didn't seem particularly knowledgeable...
I haven't found much information through searching, other than that everyone seems to be complaining about the PPD things.
'Thank you.'
Marc.

Hello Marc,
Besides your malfunctioning Shift key, I'm reading a lot of emotion and very little factual information here.
Sure, when you spend a lot of money and things don't turn out the way you hoped.
I can't think of anything to say to "piece of junk BMN" other than "you should have known better before you bought it" or "be happy with those 170 horsepower."
I am not of this world, because I do not curse my PPD .
The Touran might seem small, but it has a lot of storage space. Since I don't know your "test track," I think 6.8 seconds is a reasonable estimate. You've already tested and ruled out all the usual problems associated with the PPD (pre-emptive detonation and its effects).
By the way, 1.25 bar is already extremely low oxygen pressure. Mine is a tenth of a bar higher, and it's still running as the manual promises (with now 68,000 km on the clock).
What do the rotation angle and the PPDE switching times indicate?
m; Transparency, Teamwork
... there was another T.
I don't know what the f*ck it was.

Tip: If the lambda value is noticeably low and the air mass is noticeably high, this indicates a leak in the charge air system.
When I used to live in Emskirchen, there was always this guy driving a Passat up the hill next to the house, blowing leaves off the road. After a long time, I couldn't stand hearing him drive by every day in that broken car, so I confronted him about it:
- The car consumes 1.5 liters per 100 kilometers more than all other similar vehicles I am familiar with.
- He doesn't care about the leak, he just whistles a little.
Best regards, Rainer.

hi
The old one was in '' because, as everyone says, the PPD elements are useless and are generally completely clogged every 30,000 km . I don't have a problem with that if you clean them every 60-90,000 km... there are worse things . I'm just used to the technology of a 1997 6N, where there wasn't much in the way of measured values, so I have to get used to that first.
'Where is the rotation angle specified? If any data is needed, please just ask. I haven't had much time to look into it yet, but I've just briefly checked to see if there's anything obvious from the outside (like clogged filters...).'
'Regarding the 'test track/fuel consumption', it's a fairly flat country road with quite a few curves, but you only need to accelerate twice, and then you can let it roll for the rest. The speed is also limited to a maximum of 120 km/h due to the fuel consumption. However, there's still a possibility of a leak in the intercooler system. Compared to the 2-liter gasoline engine, you can clearly hear the turbo kicking in under heavy load, starting around 1800-2000 rpm. But shouldn't that also be reflected in the boost pressure or air mass readings?'
If everything is okay, I can live with the ~7 liters. It just seems like a lot, and combined with the somewhat difficult starting, I suspected there might be a problem .

helicoil helps
What fails first, the threads or the sealing surface?

For those who might be experiencing the same issue, it seems the problem lies with the tandem pump/seals. If you block the inlet and outlet of the pump after it's been turned off, the engine starts cleanly. However, if you leave one of them open, it takes longer to start.
If the lambda value is noticeably small and the air mass is noticeably large, this indicates a leak in the charge air system. What would be considered noticeably small/large? There's no information from VW about the expected values anymore...
