Hey everyone!
I replaced the chip in my Audi A6 2.5 TDI C4. Everything seemed fine, but since then, the engine won't start. I suspect the WFS is to blame.
How do I do that? I have the cable with VAG-COM software.

Thank you!

Hello Rudolf,
The chip (specifically the one referred to in 'chip tuning') usually has nothing to do with the Water Injection System (WFS). The data for the WFS, as well as the error memory, is stored in a separate component.
How is your engine behaving?
Does it start briefly, run for about a second, and then turn off, or does it not start at all?
If the latter is the case, I would say you've messed something up during the chip tuning process, or the chip is not compatible with the engine/ECU icon_cry.gif.
Does the engine still run if you put the old chip back in?

Best regards, Rudi.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Addendum' or 'Postscript.'

Theoretical consideration, in case it is the WFS:
The current Flash memory chips, for example from Atmel, can be erased and programmed in very small blocks, even during operation, which could eliminate the need for separate EEPROMs. However, to my knowledge, this technology is not currently used in ECUs (please correct me if I am wrong).

Okay, I suspect I messed something up during the tuning process. I bought an EEPROM programmer with data sets and flashed them onto an auxiliary chip. Then, I was told that the WFS (likely referring to a specific parameter or setting) needs to be adjusted for it to work. But now I'm going to try something different. I'm going to try flashing the original values onto the chip and see if it starts up.

He's not moving at all, and the WFS indicator light won't stop flashing.

I'll let you know if anything comes up!
Thank you!!!

@Rudolf

Did you use the correct EEPROMs? Some of them have an address latch built in. I used 87C257s. The standard 27C256 won't work there. If you use those, nothing will happen.

Paul.

@Rudolf

Have you checked the checksum? The 8-bit checksum covering the entire chip, from address 0h to 7FFFh, must have a value of 00 in the last two digits.

Paul.

Hello Rudolf,
Your control unit should have the part number 4A0 907 401.
Besides the fact that you have to use the 27c257, it also won't work if you mix up the two chips (motor and turbo).

Best regards, Rudi.

Thanks everyone! I just had the chips swapped during installation. Now it's working perfectly again! I have two of the 27C256 chips, and I mixed them up.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif
