Who can help me?

I want to give my Lupo TDI a little boost.
squeeze a little more performance out of it.
I would prefer not to use a physical security key (like a YubiKey) or any kind of embedded chip.

1.) Who knows what I could do? icon_redface.gif

2.)
A friend once told me that you can adjust a rod on the turbocharger.
Is that correct to say that it's about getting more power from the lower end of the RPM range?

Hi.

Without a control module or chip, achieving any meaningful tuning is practically impossible.

It might be possible to try and manipulate the fuel temperature signal using a parallel resistor, causing the system to inject slightly larger volumes of diesel due to what appears to be a higher fuel temperature.
However, it would likely only provide a relatively small increase in performance. Ironically, the most noticeable effect might be during cold starts in winter, which is precisely when you should avoid using full power!

Adjusting the loading arm should be done with caution. Without a pressure gauge, it's easy to enter the range of harmful overpressure, which, in the best-case scenario, the engine control unit will respond to by activating an emergency mode = reduced power, before anything breaks.

Then all that's left is a 10-cent tuning adjustment. It's quite simple with the pump/injector system as well. But we've already discussed that before.
Take a look at the archive.

... I actually thought that the "10C Tuning" for a PD (presumably referring to a diesel engine) was the parallel connection of a resistor to the fuel temperature sensor, as described by Ulf?
Since there is no distributor injection pump, there is no common rail injector, right?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Christine, the charger of the PD1.2l 45kW engine operates within regulated parameters across a wide range, meaning that adjusting linkages will not achieve anything and you won't damage the unit. Installing a performance box or other power-enhancing modifications will essentially negate your tax benefits due to D4 classification and CO2 emissions below 90g/km. You will then receive a tax assessment of €166.28, or risk tax evasion along with the associated penalties if the modification is not documented in the vehicle's paperwork.

Despite everything, I hope you continue to have a lot of fun crafting.

Best regards,
W.

Hi W.,

I have often observed the charging regulation on my AFN motorcycle using a voltmeter, and I could describe the results exactly as you did above.

By "problematic boost increase using a shortened rod," I meant the (partial) exit from the active control range due to excessive adjustment, which can, at least in AFN engines, cause higher pressure spikes during initial setup and excessively high pressure in the full-load range at maximum speed. This pressure then cannot be regulated back down (except through fuel injection reduction).

Do permanent magnet motors generally behave differently?
