Hello.
Unfortunately, my power steering pump failed today. It became noticeable during highway driving due to an extreme increase in temperature . I hope I haven't damaged the engine.
Well, anyway. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get the most out of the pump?
Can I use any standard golf pump, or were there different types?
thank you Golf III TDI AHU 402Tkm

Hi,
Do you mean the power steering pump or the vacuum pump (since you mentioned temperature and engine damage)?

Hi,
The power steering pumps from the Golf 3, with a 4-cylinder engine of 1.6L to 2.0L, should be compatible. The part number is 026 145 157 D(X). The Passat from the corresponding years of manufacture also uses this power steering pump.
Follow the RLF or Etzold instructions for installation. Obtain new seals for the inlet and outlet, and use VW hydraulic oil. The pump should be filled from the suction side before installation.

Hello Herbert,
Thank you for the reply. The pump is now outside, but it's completely stuck. It was quite a difficult job to remove it, and I wonder who came up with this design with this console...
I ended up with pump number 155E, and I'm wondering if there are any differences.
My mechanic is asking for 60 euros for a used [item]. Is that a reasonable price? Golf III TDI AHU 402Tkm

Hi,
What is the year of manufacture and exact model? The TL number might refer to Ecomatic. What is the full TL number?

BJ is 97, engine code AHU.

Is it actually "normal" that this thing looks like it's from the Titanic? It looks more like a lump of rust than a pump. Golf III TDI AHU 402Tkm

Hi,
Then get yourself a 1H0 422 155 E. If the used part costs 60€ and is in good condition, why not?
It's not certain whether a different type will fit, and it's not necessarily cheaper either.

I have a brand new SPIDAN pump in the basement, although it's for a Golf IV, but it should probably fit. Is your pump from Saginaw?
I'd be happy to take some pictures tonight, so you can compare them! Would you be interested? BKD GRF

Hi,
If the connections, hub distance, pressure, etc., are compatible, why not?
While the part number 1H0 422 155 E can be found online, it is unfortunately not available for comparison in VagCat.
The center-to-center distance is specified as 41 mm for the 1H0 422 155 E. The manufacturer is likely Saginaw.
You still need to determine the pressure output of the old pump and compare it to the new one. This can naturally affect the behavior of the steering system, and with significantly higher pressure, you need to consider the seals.
You might want to use the appropriate connecting hoses for a different pump.
Here's another tip: If the pump is damaged, it's very likely that the entire hydraulic fluid and the steering gear are contaminated. So, replace the fluid and flush the system. I've never had to do this, but when flushing, put a filter in the circuit, for example, at the outlet of the reservoir, or use an extra container as a sump, so that the dirt doesn't get back into the pump. Of course, the filter must allow enough fluid to pass through, so try it out first.

Hello.
Thanks for the tip about flushing.
@ Deus Violentia, and my pump is from Saginaw, USA, and it has a pressure of 90 bar. If the pump fits, we could do business. Where are you from?
