WFS Login Code Missing: What to Do?

Hello,

I would like to pair two new, standard (non-radio) keys that I purchased from VW today. I initially thought that it might be possible with VCDS. However, as I've now read, it's definitely not possible without a WFS login code. Unfortunately, I didn't receive the key tag with the PIN from the previous owner, and it no longer exists (the owner before the previous owner had the car converted from standard keys to radio keys).

So, I'm now forced to have the keys programmed at VW, which will cost around 50-100 euros (conflicting information), right?

Or can I ask VW to read out the 4-digit code for me free of charge and tell it to me? According to my understanding, I am entitled to this code because I am the owner of the vehicle. It has essentially just been "lost."

If they refuse to cooperate, I'll just end up paying that exorbitant amount of money, and at that point, surely I'll have the "right" to know that 4-digit code, right?

How does VW log in, exactly? Using a 7-digit code? Is that some kind of "universal" PIN that allows VW to access any VAG vehicle?

First, it would be helpful to have data from the vehicle (a vehicle scan).

At VW, they are also unable to retrieve the login code. It is stored in a database and associated with the vehicle's chassis number and immobilizer ID.

There is only a 4-digit login code. The 7-digit code is derived from the 4-digit code and includes the date, importer number, and dealer number, and is only valid for one day (it can be bypassed using VCDS). Previously, the 7-digit code could be obtained via fax request, but this is no longer possible.

Assuming we know what type of vehicle it is, there are also other possible solutions.

VW cannot retrieve or provide the login information, as they themselves do not have access to it.

Officially, only VW can program the keys for you. But, as chli already mentioned, with the right hardware/software (not VCDS), it's also possible to do it without VW, you just need to find someone who can.

Where is this database located? What's the point if, apparently, even VW can't access it, or who, then, "actually benefits" from this database?

The VW tester connects to this database via the intranet and retrieves the necessary data.

There are two ways to access the login system. Either through the engine control unit (ECU). This would require a BDM tool or something similar.
Or, translate the instrument cluster.

It would also be interesting to know the year of manufacture. As far as I believe, it's relatively inexpensive (interface + software) up to around 2007.

The year of manufacture is either 1998 or 1999, so you're saying it's "relatively cheap (interface + software)," right? What is the name of this interface and software?

What is a BDM? (Google and searching here in the forum didn't yield any results...)

Is it relatively easy for a layman like me to figure out the login process using this Interface+ software, or does it require a significant amount of (VCDS) background knowledge / practical experience with VCDS?

I'd prefer to do it myself to learn, but I might need a step-by-step guide if it's not something that's easy to do on your own.
