Hello.

I'm having a problem with my Volkswagen Golf 4 Variant, 1.9L, 74 kW, engine code: AXR.

The error code related to the exhaust system appeared in the car. I read and cleared the error code, but it reappears after a very short time.
Error:

Address 01: Engine
Label file: RKS\038-906-019-AXR.lbl
Control unit part number: 038 906 019 KP.
Component and/or version: 1.9L R4 EDC 0000SG 4902.
Encoding: 00002
Operating number: WSC 01266
Extended information: WVWZZZ1JZ4WXXXXXX VWZ7Z0D9149984
VCID: 6FE665EA070D
"One error found:"

19586 - Exhaust gas recirculation system: Limit exceeded.
P3130 - 35-00 - -

Readiness: 0 0 0 0 1 0

The measurement data section reads:

Address 01: Engine (038 906 019 K).

17:02:58 Block 003: Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
903 /min - Motor speed
195.0 mg/H Air mass (Target value)
455.7 mg/H Air mass (actual value)
74.5% duty cycle for the EGR valve.

I have already cleaned the pneumatic EGR valve and the throttle body.

During the actuator diagnosis, I noticed that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve is not clicking.
Is this normal, or could this be the problem?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards, lenzling.

Hello,

It's quite likely that either the EGR valve is faulty or its control system is not working correctly.
The air mass sensor reading is very close to the expected value with zero exhaust gas recirculation.

I would first check...
- whether the membrane in the EGR valve is still intact.
- that the vacuum sealing is working correctly.
- not where vacuum is lost elsewhere.

While a faulty solenoid valve used for vacuum control is also conceivable, it is likely to be a less common cause.

Best regards, Rainer.

I also inspected the vacuum hose, but I didn't find anything wrong.
I also tried to create a certain amount of vacuum on the membrane of the AGR valve using a syringe (no vacuum pump available). The membrane is making noises, but the valve hasn't moved even a millimeter.

How about the solenoid valve?
Shouldn't the actuator diagnostic system produce sounds, and should it create a vacuum when a hose is disconnected, which you would then hold with your hand?

Then it's probably broken...

"Noises" should be kept to a minimum; it should simply work. icon_wink.gif
Perhaps you could use your tongue to check the disconnected hose during actuator diagnosis to see if there is vacuum present or not.

Best regards, Rainer Kaufmann.

Hello.

Just a quick update.
It was the EGR valve. I replaced it with a new one, and now the values in measurement block 3 are 100% correct. Also, the error no longer appears after about 40 km of test driving.

Best regards,
Lenzling.
