Good day, esteemed forum community,

I currently have a Crafter van here with a BJM engine that is still running, but has pushed half of its oil pan contents into the cooling system.
As you can probably imagine, this is a huge mess, especially since he forced it out of the surge tank.

I'll take the head off later and bring it straight to the planning department.
He's definitely crooked.
You know how it is with some of the drivers.
'There's a light on, and there's food available around 6, he can still make it.' -> So, water at 120°C poured over the highway!

Okay, so, how would you clean the cooling system?
First, disassemble everything and clean it as thoroughly as possible. Then, rinse it 5 times with radiator cleaner.
What's the best way to approach that?

I would appreciate any help and thank you in advance.

Please make sure to check the oil cooler first!
I've actually experienced something similar on an old TD. The first workshop was just as clever, and they immediately took off the head and replaced the perfectly intact head gasket. When it still pushed oil into the water, they were at a loss... icon_rolleyes.gif

I used an all-purpose cleaner to clean it, and it worked okay, but it needs to be done quite often.

Hi.

I probably should have mentioned that the car had already been losing coolant a week prior, and it currently has 396,000 kilometers on the odometer.

I'm about to do a thorough overhaul.
Okay, so the plan is to replace the cylinder head, all the seals, and the timing belt is due for replacement as well. We'll also change the oil cooler; it's not that expensive, so let's see how it goes.

Let's see how we're going to clean up this mess.
It's definitely going to be a lot of fun!

You might try using water and dish soap to get it mostly oil-free, but afterwards, rinse it thoroughly several times with plenty of water to make sure all the dish soap is gone.

There are cooling system cleaners that effectively remove oil. You need to flush the system for about 3-5 times while the engine is warm and running. It's best to remove the thermostat to speed up the process, and then reinstall it at the end. It's called "radiator oil emulation" or something similar.
