Knocking sound from the engine area when releasing the accelerator, Golf PD 100hp

Hello.
I've been hearing a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment when I release the accelerator pedal since today. You can't hear anything when accelerating.

I have a Volkswagen Golf IV Variant TDI with 74 kW. First registration: 11/2001. Mileage: 35,000 km.
The inspection was performed approximately 1000 kilometers ago.

I've only had the car for 3 weeks, and I bought it from a private seller!

Hello.
I just drove the car myself for a bit. The day before yesterday, my wife drove it and told me about the problem.
The rattling sound is coming from the front, left side, and it sounds like something is rolling.
It also happens even when the engine is not running.
If you briefly press the brake pedal, the noise stops, but it reappears when you release it!

Can anyone give me some advice on that?

It seems the only solution is to remove the wheel and rotate it.
