hi,

My Golf TDI, model year 1994, now has 316,000 kilometers on the odometer.
Shouldn't we at least consider using activated carbon?
or how long do they last? or should I replace the entire alternator? probably the armature is worn out too.

At this mileage, it's definitely a good idea to check the brushes. They don't cost much, but a failure is usually very annoying. I would recommend replacing them proactively. Then you'll be worry-free for the next 300,000 kilometers.

Best regards.

Hi tdi-seppl,

Just out of curiosity: Is your clutch still the original one? If not, how long did the first one last? And what about the shock absorbers? I have the same model year with 230,000 km on the odometer.

Regards,
I'm sorry, I don't understand. Can you please rephrase your request?

@wollif

'I'm not TDI-Seppl, but the rear shock absorbers on my Passat 35i started leaking around 200,000 kilometers. While the front ones were still in good condition. I think it was still the original set of shock absorbers, but I can't be sure because I bought the car used.'
The clutch is likely still the original one and doesn't seem to have any problems.

Hi,

I'm not exactly a "TDI-Seppl" either, but the shock absorbers on our Audi 80 1Z with 270,000 km still had over 70% functionality during the last ADAC inspection -> good. However, the condition depends on the type of roads driven icon_exclaim.gif.

How many times have you replaced the crankshaft bolt on your 1Z engine?

I am TDI-Seppl.

Okay, I'll replace the alternator when I get the chance.
The clutch is still the original one.
"However, I replaced the front shock absorbers 50,000 km ago because they were leaking."
Besides wear-and-tear parts like brakes, filters, and the timing belt, I have replaced an injector (the one with the sensor) and the glow plugs.
I still intend to achieve that 500,000.

Here's TDI-Seppl again.

I have always changed the timing belt, idler pulley, and tensioner pulley myself.
I have never changed the crankshaft bolt.
There's already a screw with a strength class of 12.8 installed.

Will you really replace the entire lighting system right away?

Just buy new carbon brushes for a few euros from Bosch and install them.

Best regards.
