Hello everyone,

Here's a 1.6 TDI (see Autoscan) and I don't understand what the DPF is doing.
Approximately 80 km before the attached log, I had the DPF cleaning light illuminated and VCDS showed 25 grams of particulate mass. I then reduced it to 4 grams by running the engine at 200 km/h.
Following the instructions didn't achieve anything.

The engine was idling. I would like to know how "full" the DPF is.
Since the EGR valve needs to be replaced, the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) has to be removed anyway.

Is it normal for the particle mass to increase from 4g to 8g over a distance of 80km?
Once, I drove 40 km with a fuel consumption of 3.2 liters, and twice I drove 20 km with a fuel consumption of 4.5 liters.

Okay, sorry, I didn't mean to attack anyone personally. But I'm a bit frustrated with the 1.6 TDI engine; it just causes problems. It's probably another case of cost-cutting measures.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to explain the 0.0 g/l ash/oil ash reading? Is it intentional, so that it can no longer be read out? Is it a fault in VCDS? Or is it (still) a software bug?

Best regards and thank you.

What do you mean by "burned out" on 4G?

As far as I know, you can only regenerate the loading status. However, this has nothing to do with the amount of ash. If the ash content exceeds a specific limit, the particulate filter needs to be replaced or cleaned.

On a 4g particle mass reading. The ash mass is always 0.0g on our 1.6 TDI. Neither software updates nor the VCDS Beta 12.10 have changed anything.

It also increases every 5 km at idle speed to allow for regeneration.

Where and how was it checked? Were 'normal' measurement data blocks used, or those under the advanced settings?

If the DPF is going to be removed anyway due to an EGR replacement, I would force a regeneration immediately before removal and then clean it after removal to remove any existing ash.

Sure, does it regenerate, or is it just raising the idle speed for other reasons?

You should check the plausibility of all sensor data (temperatures, pressure differences, etc.) as much as possible.

1.6 TDI Continental PCR2.1 - There are no standard diagnostic parameter groups available!
I guess I have to look under the "advanced" options.

Yes, I even charged the battery, but it's still doing it.

Forced regeneration no longer works on the 1.6 TDI engine. Replacing the AGR valve is only possible at a VW workshop due to the specialized tools required.
They probably won't clean the DPF anyway.

But to answer the original question:
Why is it showing 0.0g of ash mass? Does anyone have another good 1.6 engine that they could take a look at?

Can you rule out the possibility that someone tampered with the system and set the ash mass to zero? Do you know the complete history of the vehicle?

Otherwise, there is apparently a rounding bug in VCDS regarding the ash content, which will only be fixed in one of the upcoming software versions and only in the beta.

I would consider a 4g speed increase of 80km to be completely normal.

Yes, I know the vehicle's history; we are the first owners. It had two inspections done by VW, and then one at an independent garage. I checked it when it had 40,000 km, and it already showed 0.0g there.

12.10.5 Beta also also displays 0.0g.

I haven't yet found an adaptation channel for the ash mass.

"If a soot increase of 4g is considered normal, does that mean it regenerates every 400km with approximately 20g of soot? Is that correct? And if the soot level reaches 25g and the regeneration process constantly fails (resulting in limp mode), is that the cause?"

Sure, here's the translation:

I also wrote "in a future data state" for the beta. Therefore, not yet in the current version!

My 2.0 CR does it roughly every 385 km. The interval only gets much longer if I drive a longer stretch of highway at speeds of 200+ km/h. But I haven't seen the warning light come on yet.

I only know the limits of the 2.0 version.

Sure, here's the translation:

"At"

- 18g initiates active regeneration.
- At 24g, a regeneration trip is requested (DPF light is on).
- If 40g is reached, a service regeneration is requested (all three lights are on).
- 45g indicates a clogged DPF -> DPF replacement needed.

It's not much trouble to flush it from back to front with the water hose, especially since the DPF is located nearby. If necessary, I would do it myself.

Who really knows how much ash is actually contained in it?

The vehicle has been flashed multiple times. However, the ash mass was already at 0.0g before the first software update. I can also say with 100% certainty that the particle mass is not lost. After an "update" without starting the engine, the value is the same as before.

I need to see if I can convince a VW workshop to either clean the DPF for me, or let me borrow it (if I have the time).
