Today, I replaced the timing belt on my new Passat 1.9 TDI PD 130 hp, engine code AVF.
Previously, I was getting readings between 0 and -0.6 degrees.
After the change, the value was -1.7, which I adjusted back to the previous range of 0 to -0.6 degrees.

Is this okay now, or should I adjust other settings?
I didn't get that information from the article.

On the way home on Monday, I noticed that the car had less power; it struggled to reach 180 km/h, even though it should have been able to easily reach 140 km/h.
"That immediately made me think of the MWB 4, but I don't think it's a good fit considering the 0-degree rating."
It could still be related to the AGR (Abgasrückführung - exhaust gas recirculation) system, as I believe it's not closing properly according to the log, and it's also leaking.

Regards,

EDIT: Log attached.

Hello Thilo,

The value is within the acceptable range when the engine is at operating temperature. Please remember that it is only meaningful to compare the synchronization angle when the engine is at operating temperature.
Due to thermal expansion of the engine block and other components, this value changes depending on the temperature.

When you hover the mouse cursor over a measurement value field in VCDS, an information bubble should appear, displaying the tolerance range.

It's hard to say for sure, as it could be due to various factors, including the weather (no joke). It's probably not related to the synchronization angle at the value you mentioned.

Best regards, Rainer.

The engine was running at operating temperature in each case.
Then I can leave those values as they are for the timing belt.

Does my statement align with the AGR?
The difference between the target and the actual result is too large for me.

Hello Thilo,

It is normal for the actual AGR (Abgasrückführung) values to be higher than the target values when the engine is running at full throttle, as no regulation takes place in that situation.

Even the Passat AVF engine can develop leaks in the intercooler hoses or at the intercooler itself as the mileage increases, which can be identified by a *shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh* sound and oily spots. Since this also reduces performance, a visual inspection is recommended.

Best regards, Rainer.

Make sure to check the vacuum lines for each actuator (and also check the tightness of the LD and AGR valves).

Possibly, something may have been damaged during the installation of the tensioner, although the values suggest otherwise.

Today I pressure-tested the intercooler system. Unfortunately, it's difficult to do properly because of the quick-connect fittings, so I had to improvise a bit: I used a plug on one side and a rag on the other.
It wasn't possible to build up pressure like that. I'll get a hose and cut it up to properly secure my plugs and apply a pressure of 1 bar.
The intercooler hoses have oil sludge and mist in several places, so I'll need to thoroughly verschandeln them when I get a new hose.

I replaced all the vacuum hoses today as part of the timing belt replacement, which was easy to do thanks to the service position.

Best regards,

Today, I checked the intercooler system again, and I found leaks in the hose after the intercooler.
I replaced the 2 seals on the hose for a mere 4.60€ each icon_rolleyes.gif, and I tested it again with 1.5 bar.
Now everything is sealed.

I took two more pictures. At the top, I used the cable ties as a "fail-safe" mechanism.
