Post11-09-2014, 7:44    Subject: Oil change questions for the 2L TSI engine Quote

Hello,

My Polo WRC (initial inspection in 9/13, first registration in 11/2013, service interval = QI6) is indicating via the FIS that it wants to perform its first oil change at the end of September. Currently, due to being a demonstrator vehicle at the dealership, it has approximately 750 km on the odometer.
So, another case of limited minimum mileage despite maximum intervals up to 2 years... well, I was already thinking about getting an extra oil change after the break-in period, and now the car itself seems to want it.
I will switch to a fixed interval right away.

My questions:

How much oil, including the filter change, is needed for the CDL engine block?
In older owner's manuals, you could find this information, but nowadays, as maintenance data increasingly becomes confidential, the oil capacity is missing from my manuals. However, the oil specification is still listed (50400 for long-life intervals, 50200 for fixed-interval changes).
Google is providing me with some data PDFs for Audi vehicles equipped with 2.0 TFSI engines, and they list oil capacities of either 4.6 or 6 liters – but without any engine code (MKB) references.

Edit: here.
http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/wie-viel-oel-passt-in-den-2-0-tsi-motor-t4975074.html
are also referred to as 4.6 liters...

"Do I have to take my car to a Volkswagen workshop to maintain the warranty, or can an independent garage also record the oil change in the service booklet without me losing any warranty claims?"
Gruß Ulf

You've reached the maximum of 1 year. The change interval actually starts from the day the car left the factory.
You can find service data with Erwin. (Dear error database, yes, you need a credit card, otherwise you won't get anything online.)
The question of the warranty doesn't really arise.

My (original German) service booklet says for QI6:
Oil change as indicated by the service reminder, or at the latest after 2 years.

Why not?
The owner of my independent repair shop trained at Volkswagen and consistently delivers excellent work. They have always provided me with clear explanations for my questions. Therefore, I feel much more comfortable there than at the local Volkswagen dealership, which to me is just another large corporation among thousands.

The answer regarding the warranty was probably meant to be ironic...
As for what might be offered later as a gesture of goodwill (a voluntary action), anything is possible.

I'm not really expecting anything in that regard, anyway.
Therefore, my service books will no longer have any entries after the warranty expires, and I'll use the money saved for potential repairs, which I might(*) have been eligible for under a goodwill policy.

But could you possibly tell me something about the oil change capacity for the CDLJ?

Aber kannst Du zufällig etwas zur Ölwechselmenge beim CDLJ sagen?

Unfortunately, no... but you'll quickly figure it out yourself during the first oil change icon_wink.gif.

Regarding the stamps in the service booklet, there's nothing to prevent having it stamped by an independent workshop if maintenance work is carried out there.

The 2.0 TFSI engine is transversely mounted in Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen, and Audi vehicles.

depending on the ICD code:

- Oil capacity including oil filter housing (BWA, BWJ engines): 4.8 liters.
- Oil capacity including oil filter housing (CDLJ) - 4.7 liters.

The oil level indicator shows "MAX" when the tank is full, but it's recommended to initially fill it with 100ml less.

- (BWA, BWJ) - 4.8L -> 4.7L
- (CDLJ) - 4.7L -> 4.6L

"Because the oil level rises as the temperature increases, and sometimes the level sensor complains about too much oil. If it's still slightly below the maximum level when the engine is warm, you can always add a little more."

See the attachment.
The scan is from August 24, 2014, but maybe the experts can still determine why the car is already indicating that it needs an oil change (probably around September 28th).

This is the rule for the variable interval.
Both the kilometers and the days are calculated dynamically.
This means that one day doesn't necessarily equal one day according to the on-board computer.
If you have more than 1 cold start for a short distance trip during the winter, then a value greater than 1 will be deducted.
Those short trips to the bakery or kindergarten, etc., are actually harmful.
Man muss ja froh sein wenn 1 Tag abgezogen wird, einmal zur Arbeit fahren und danach wieder heim.. icon_wink.gif
So, if the workshop takes the car out in the morning and can put it back in again in the evening, then two days will pass.

Regarding warranty and goodwill, experience shows that if there's only one stamp in the service booklet, they won't notice if you yourself have done the second oil change when making a goodwill claim!
Service intervals: First service at 15 months, second service to be performed by the owner without an official stamp in the maintenance booklet.
Does the car still have a service booklet, or is all the information stored online with Volkswagen?

The service booklet is available, but it seems that everything is also stored with VW, because this was the final response from VW a few days after the oil change at a VW dealership:

Quote:
Dear Mr. "ulf",

Thank you for your reply.

The flexible maintenance interval is either mileage-based or time-based. After 1 year / 15,000 km, up to a maximum of 2...
Years / 30,000 km, whichever comes first.

Your Volkswagen Polo with the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) listed above has been driven very little and therefore has experienced long periods of inactivity.
As a result, the engine oil loses its beneficial properties and is no longer able to produce an adequate lubricating film.

This can be caused, for example, by a high water content that can form if the engine oil doesn't have proper warm-up periods.
He learned about it. Another possibility could be fuel contamination in the engine oil.

The possibility of oil dilution during cold starts is addressed by performing an early oil change when the vehicle is driven infrequently.
It was triggered at the right time. Therefore, the control unit reported its status as intended.

We are happy to answer any further questions or suggestions you may have.

Best regards.
Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate into English.

Gruß Ulf

Hi,

Perhaps the Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) technology itself considers this to be a rather extreme form of "heating," because with only 600 kilometers of driving distance, the driving style used results in a thermal load equivalent to 2300 kilometers.

For comparison purposes only - before I replaced my AI last December, the values were as follows:

Code:

Anpassung Anpassungskanal: WIV: Rußeintrag
Gespeicherter Wert 7000 km

Anpassung Anpassungskanal: WIV: thermische Belastung
Gespeicherter Wert 4700 km

The thermal load, converted to kilometers, was significantly below the actual mileage (when I last checked, it was approximately 8400 - meanwhile, my Octavia has 25,000 km - I really need to check again), while yours is almost four times that value. It seems some people might have actually tested the demonstrator model...

Best regards,

Jan.

I was also thinking about the heating aspect. But it seems to be a "problem" with the 2L TSI engine, because I too managed to get the thermal counter up to 160 km on a real-world driving distance, adding another 400 km of stress testing.
Of course, there were occasional moments of spirited driving, but no instances of speeding on the Autobahn.
So far, I've only revved the engine up to a maximum of 3rd gear, which is about 150 km/h when the speed limiter kicks in.

I also have experience.
The car only sits in the garage... The trip odometer is advancing faster than the clock.
If that profile also includes short trips to the bakery... oh dear...
If you use this driving profile and go on a trip, the remaining range drops significantly again after just 600 kilometers of continuous operation.
Unfortunately, that doesn't apply to the odometer... it remains at zero.
The calculation seems to be performed in blocks somehow.
There were also instances of faulty oil quality sensors.
If you're in a bad mood, time seems to pass more quickly.
