Hello.
As the title states, I'm having a problem with a BPX.
The hydraulic components were making noises and were replaced for that reason.
However, with the new Hydros, it now rattles again after just a few minutes of running smoothly.
The engine has now been driven for 240,000 km, and it turns out that the last oil change was done 80,000 to 100,000 km ago.
I suspect the hydraulic components aren't getting enough oil because the channels are clogged with debris.
The oil filter could be removed in one piece and hasn't dissolved yet.
By the way, the rattling noise gets louder when the oil gets warm.
Do you think there's still hope for this engine, or is it better not to put any more effort into it?
Thank you in advance for your support.
Regards,
Michael.

If you suspect that the oil channels, etc., are blocked, then shorten the interval. And importantly, also measure the oil pressure sometimes.
What is the current oil viscosity?

Currently, it is filled with 5w30 oil. The oil pressure has been measured and is approximately 5 bar.

Hi!
That's quite a lot of miles (100,000 km) to drive without an oil change.
But 5 bar of oil pressure is quite a lot.
Under what conditions did you measure the 5 bar pressure?
Engine cold, engine warm, idle speed, high RPM?
Normally, as far as I know, it's measured with a warm engine at idle speed, and then again at 2000 RPM.
There are also target values for that.
Okay, I don't know the values.
"But in my Corrado, the pressure relief valve in the oil pump was once stuck, which was a common problem with the VR6 engines."
However, that caused other problems.
Perhaps someone knows the target values for oil pressure under specific conditions?
What did the camshafts look like? Grüße, Steffen!

Mindestens 2 bar bei 2000 min-1 und ca. 80°C Öltemperatur. MMaximum value: 7 bar.
Does the oil meet the correct VW specification?

Of course, damage from improper storage is also a possibility. I would simply check the hydraulic lifters: stop the "clattering" engine, and then check if any of the lifters have excessive play.

Are the sealing plugs for the rocker arm shaft still in place? If not, the oil pressure in the transmission will decrease. LG, Onkel BM
