Convert ESP Regulator to Universal Speed Controller

Hi,

If one wants to convert an old swirl chamber diesel engine for stationary use, a universal speed controller in the ECU would be highly desirable.
Can you easily retrofit an ESP (e.g., from a Golf 1.6D)? VW also offered this engine as an industrial engine, so there must be something available from Bosch.

This is called speed control via centrifugal force. Unfortunately, I don't know the Bosch part number for an ESP system like that.

Okay, that's possible... You can keep everything the same except:

- Adjustable shaft
- Spring clip
- Idling spring.
- Mounting bracket for idle spring.

Tip: Ask Uncle Edgar for the part number of a specific component from an industrial motor. Using the VW part number, you can also find the Bosch part number.

Using the Bosch part number, you can go to a (qualified) Bosch service center and order the corresponding parts.

However, be aware that the stiffness of the springs varies depending on the rated speed and control characteristics.
You can also take something from the agricultural and construction machinery sector, but again, caution is advised – there are different lengths for the adjustment shafts.
